Velocity Mobile Enters Windows Mobile Smartphone Market With 103, 111
Posted by Jason Chen at 6:20 AM on April 2, 2008
Does the world need yet another company making Windows Mobile phones? Maybe, maybe not, but Velocity Mobile is doing it anyway with their Velocity 103 (left) and 111 (right) smartphones. Both are running Windows Mobile 6.1 and will launch in Q2 and Q3 respectively. What's this have to do with Mr. T? You can't spell Velocity without T, fool. Plus Mr. T likes smartphones.
The 103 has a 2.8-inch touchscreen with 640x480 resolution, Wi-Fi, AGPS, and no keyboard. The 111 has a front-facing keyboard, which cuts the resolution down to 320x240 on a 2.46-inch screen. This also has Wi-Fi and AGPS. Both phones have a 2-megapixel back camera and a 0.3-megapixel front video camera for conferencing. [Velocity Mobile]

Haha... nice. Only time will tell if the glossy rendition makes it. NEWS FLASH: RIM HIRES MR. T AS GENERAL COUNSEL. Official Statement: "If anybody hurt 'em, they gonna pay!"

@PeteUALaw: I have one in my pocket. Literally, I'm not just glad to see you. But I agree, this is Blackberry's Meizu.

@SchruteBuck: Pull up an image of the BlackBerry 8830 and you'll see what I mean. Same layout and everything, just different color and a front camera. The BlackBerry logo on the left of the trackball is now a windows logo and the return key says "ok".... just an observation... and I wouldnt doubt the possibility of RIM has the lawyers in the room soon.

@PeteUALaw: Holy cow, is that a trackball? I'd be on the phone with these guys if I was RIM.

@riqgeez: The other one is clearly different. But kind of reminds me of the pst inclusive of a touch screen BlackBerry. Coincidence? Probably, but maybe not.

@SchruteBuck: Yes. There are benefits and detriments to each platform. But this is just a blatent rip off copy with a few additional features and a couple key icons changed.

@PeteUALaw:
I see what you mean about that BlackBerry look. The pics are to dark to see what the other one looks like though.

640x320 res on a 2.8" display? Nice, though I wonder how small certain text would be (I wouldn't look at pdf's on this thing).
WinMo 6, however, is a pass for this hombre

Looks like a BlackBerry... surprising there is no patent infringement. Heck, I'd think of switching to this from my BlackBerry
