Pioneering Orangutan Pries First Hunting Tool Ever Out of Heston's Cold Dead Hands
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 4:00 PM on April 28, 2008
Hide the china, bananas, children—whatever. I guess it doesn't really matter, because for the first time ever an orangutan was spotted in the wild using a gadget to hunt. In this case the tool was a spear, and the intrepid primate apparently picked up the skill by watching locals fish with spears along the Gohong River in Borneo, on the island of Kaja.
Lucky for we homo sapiens, this orangutan was not as skilled as the fishermen, and could only snare fish that were hooked on fishing lines. Orangutans are incredible masters of mimicry, however, so you know it's only a matter of time before Charlton Heston himself will have to fight his way back from the abyss to save us all. The orangutan pictured is just one of hundreds living at the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, which is operated by the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation in Borneo (Indonesia).
Kaja is a small island in the middle of the Rongan River where several dozen orangutans are living until they can be released back into a safe section of the rainforest. The problem is that due to the unchecked spreading of palm oil plantations, the forest is being cut down and orangutans are being slaughtered. This orangutan, like the 650 others at Nyaru Menteng, is an orphan. He watched as his mother was murdered and his forest home was destroyed.
You can see him and the others on the series “Orangutan Island’ on Animal Planet.
Because of deforestation by the palm oil industry, orangutans are predicted to be extinct in the wild in less than 10 years. To learn more about orangutans and how to help them, please visit the Orangutan Outreach website at redapes.org.

Sitting on shelf is a pile of old scripts. I have a copy of Rod Serling's (original spec script based off of Pierre Boulle's book. It's a good read. The multi page opening describing the ship, take off, landing and characters of the final shooting script is also a good read. Neither of them gave me a chuckle, but this post did.
Thank's Jack.

Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death.

Get your hands off my spear, you damn dirty ape! What's that? It's my neighbor's spear? Oh. Well, in that case...carry on, I guess.

I always love seeing animals using tools. This makes me think of those Chimps that use spears to kill bush babies. This is interesting to see a group of apes actually copying the weapon use of humans. Lets just hope people keep a close eye on their guns!

So this is how I forsee the future going somewhere in the next couple hundred decades
Humans get fatter and weaker>>>>> orangutans become smart (i.e human like), bringing on a second smart being AND TAKE OVER THE EARTH... and we become monkey food... *cues depressing music*

@johnnyabnormal: That was funny, but disturbing. At least most of those thieving little monkeys were not drunks.
I wonder what is worse for monkeys, orangutans, etc.-drinking or smoking. I do not think this is a good idea:

Let me be the first to say:
I for one welcome our new spear-wielding ape overlords.
