LEGO Mousetrap Makes Mice Hate Danish Cheese
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 8:00 AM on April 24, 2008
This LEGO mousetrap by Jason Allemann is pure, classic simplicity made of bricks. Created with LEGO technic, the trap measures 30 x 16 x 24 studs, and has helped him caught two mice so far (one in the picture above.) The mechanism itself is quite simple:
1) mice get inside to get food
2) mice step onto a pressure plate
3) pressure plate pulls an axle out of the door
4) door closes immediately caging mice inside
5) kill mice
6) skin mice
7) make furry coats and cool sneakers for a bunch of mini-figs
8) sell clothes to LEGO fans
9) grill mice meat slowly, applying multiple thin layers of teriyaki sauce
10) eat mice
So as you can see, it's not only a perfect pest killer but also a great way to start a LEGO business (ok, Jason says he released the two he caught—one of them in the picture—in a "not-so-nearby wooded area." Obviously, the guy doesn't have a single idea about business or gourmet cooking.) [True Dimensions via Brothers Brick]

In my version we dispense with the door contraption, instead a beautiful lattice of razor wire is pulled quickly through the trap. Voila, mouse appetif!

Ah, a little speciesism to bring home with me on my way out of the office.

If you ask me, it looks a bit precarious. The pole coming up from the pressure plate barely looks like it's touching the trigger.
Oh, well. I prefer the insane rube-goldberg contraption mousetrap from the board game any day.

I'll stick with the 9-volt holding traps that give 'em a nice meal and then then ZAP death.

Nice invention, with one drawback. Mice can chew through plastic.

I'm guessing that these are common house mice. And Jason, in the name of being humane, went out of his way to release them in a wooded area. Oh dear. I rather think he might have condemned those gullible wee house mice to certain owl-shaped death.

Reminds me of a tiny velociraptor cage from Jurrasic Park II. Now I just have to find a tiny tiny Australian hunter for it to eat.

ALF is now going to raid Gizmodo offices to rescue the mice and save them from Lego hell. Threatening to skin them and make furry coats greatly upsets ALF.
ALF will designate Gizmodo an animal terrorist. Even though ALF has been known to kill animals because somehow they deem the animal is better off dead than living as a pampered pet.
See how ALF makes the world a better place by claiming the right to kill animals for their own good?
Now if Gizmodo markets the little fur coats as a way to protect the remaining live mice then ALF may agree with your logic.
It all makes perfect sense to me.

Well Jesus, hows this for a business proposition, first we killiate the mice, then we skin the mice for the little lego coats, then we coat the little meaty corpses in batter and sell them as chicken wings to low class restaurants and of course hobos, they'll eat anything if you'll sell it to them for empty liqour bottles. Then we scare them off with the bumbot [ca.news.yahoo.com] and repeat the process.

@Jesus Diaz: Exellent, if you photochop the champion of bum fights(whoever that may be) eating them, throw a graffiti motif on it and spread it around cities, we've got some wicked viral marketing.

@kdaphoto: Agreed killing an animal after "rescuing" it from it's pampered life is definitely more humane. I mean overcrowding is only humane if it's prisoners, animals shouldn't have to stand for that.

We had some pet gerbils growing up as kids. They would have devoured a lego house. They seriously destroyed anything that wasn't metal. The little plastic houses and running wheels were reduced to plastic shavings after about a week (they came free with the rodent cages).

Oddly reminds me of that Velociraptor cage from the start of Jurassic Park. "Shoot her!" (cue agonized mouse squeaking)
