Guy Collects 5000 Mobile Phones, Creates Art Show
Posted by Jason Chen at 9:00 AM on April 5, 2008
If you're in Boston and really like looking at mobile phones, a guy called Rob Pettit collected 5,000 of them and created an art show. Hit the link to see where and when it is, and be thankful that Rob's collecting them instead of poisoning little kids. [Rob Pettit]

@bvicarious: Maybe you should go take an* art class and then you might actually be able to articulate something* beyond "paintings and shit. This is trash."

Ugh! How is this "art"?? Art is paintings and shit. This is trash. I guess this "artist" took the wrong classes in "art" "school"

I feel that really speaks to the essence of being and what it means to be truly alone in this post-nihilist society controlled by the Military Inferiority Complex. Or something.

@bvicarious: I guess the old adage, "Art is hard, criticism is easy", is all too true, now isn't it? Back to your hole, Philistine.

Its probably the most pointless and stupid thng I HVE EVER SEEN... Think about it... Ive see A LOT of things. This by far is the worst. Get a life, or spend the time you spend doing stupid shit to make a difference in the world.

pretty sweet... using "junk" to do art, always respected that stuff.. and they even look pretty nice, which is always a plus ;D

5000 cellphones, even non working ones, would go a long way in the hands of a charity like Cellphones for Solders or Verizon's program that fixes up cellphones to give to battered women. Are far as whether this is art, I'll leave that for others to hash out.

You can download a free shipping label and print out a receipt for the value you place on your gift at their web site. Just mail your cellphone there, working or not. If you are missing a charger or battery don't worry as they have lots of donated spare parts
As for Verizon just drop the phone off at your local Verizon store. There should be a box you can toss it in

I want to know of one thing that China doesn't F up when it comes to the environment, ethics, or product quality. I can't stand this crap but the sad thing is that it's caused by us Americans always demanding the lowest prices, which in turn has lead to the diminished dollar value. Dumb Chinese 'businessmen" always trying to save a buck by cutting corners right and left.

@renditionman: it should be noted that cellphones for soldiers does not actually give cellphones to soldiers, but sells them and uses the money to pay for calling cards for soldiers to call home. My guess is that they are far less efficient at that than an individual might be in selling their own phone on craigslist or ebay and donating the cash.
