Brainwashing Goggles Help You Quit Smoking, Learn to Kill the Easy Way
Posted by Adam Frucci at 12:25 AM on April 1, 2008
I've always found effort to be pretty unbecoming. I mean, working hard at something totally increases the worry lines in your face, making you look all old and ugly. No thanks! I'm staying pretty for life! That's why I'm definitely buying a pair of these Cyber MC brainwashing goggles.
It's not really clear how the Orange Dream software helps you do things like lose weight, quit smoking or meditate, but the general assumption is that it flashes images in your face Clockwork-Orange style to reprogram your brain to associating delicious, flavourful cigarettes with something unappealing like third degree burns or mining accidents.
I don't care how it works, I just want to be able to sit sedentarily and not have to put any uglifying stress on my sprightly young body. Don't I deserve at least that? [Aving via Hallyu Tech]

Those who say to quit cold turkey...I have tried multiple times. The problem is I have been smoking so long that my withdrawal symptoms are unbelievable. In fact not only did it make me edgy and an ass but I get wicked physical pains too, like extreme nausea or headaches.
F*ck, I really want to quit so I keep trying, but anything to try and help quit I'll try at least once.

Remember though. Quitting smoking isn't just for you. It's for those around you (family, friends and loved ones....not talking about second hand smoke). And quitting definitely isn't easy and while yes there's obviously benefits to hard work I'd hardly apply to that doing something like quitting an addiction. Making yourself miserable while doing it doesn't help anybody. And not to mention that quitting cold turkey makes you a raging asshole for a while, so remember those around you!

The gadget sounds like nonsense, but I disagree with the tone of the post.
Why is it necessarily better to have to put effort in to an action than not? The rather sarky post suggests that somehow it is morally bettering for an action such as losing weight or quitting smoking to involve concerted effort, but what is the foundation for this? If there was a cheap, guaranteed method for losing weight, why would it be objectionable to utilise it?
Let us say that an overweight person could enter a machine and lose all of their excess weight in a matter of hours, or they could spend years dieting and hating themselves to achieve the same result. What makes the second option preferable? I would argue nothing other than some ridiculous idea that they 'deserve' to go through the second option as 'punishment' for allowing themselves to get into that state in the first place, an argument which is not only unsound, but is only likely to be put forward by those which are unaffected by it.
Anyway, I must go now to place my order for a set of these goggles and a copy of Beethoven's Ninth.
Good day.

You can still smoke with these on, you just cant SEE the ciggy anymore. Just go Cold Turkey; its rough, but cheap and the pain is all up front. You dont have to deal with your brain get UNwashed down the line either (or the seizures from the flashing lights).

No need for brainwashing. If I quit smoking I would likely start killing of my own accord.

@phimuskapsi:
If you really want to quit smoking, but can't handle nicotine withdrawl, just try e-cigarettes. Consume all the nicotine you want, comfortably and easily, with NO SMOKE. I get mine from www.e-cig.com but there are other places.

@phimuskapsi: I think it takes the average person 8 times before they have sex or quit smoking for the first time. Or is it the other way around? Or is it the sex that causes the smoking? And why have I never smoked? And furthermore, can I redact this entire line of questioning?

@phimuskapsi: Yeah, you can't just quit cold turkey, you need to quit and have something else to turn to.
Losing wight though diet and exercise is not punishment buddy. It's a lifestyle decision. If someone was eating like crap and went though a weight loss machine to loose wight, they would gain it back because they would still be eating like crap. A person has to make the decision themselves to change their lifestyle, their mentality, and their actions--it's called self control (no punishment). I used to be fat... why? Cuz I ate a lot of cheese burgers, I ate a Cinnabon a week (cuz I worked there), I ate pizza all the time and I drank a lot of beer. I changed my lifestyle (changed my diet, began working out) all that and lost 50lbs and now I feel a lot better than I did when I was over 200lbs. Freaking lazy Americans just want everyone else to do everything for them... grow a backbone and take some personal responsibility!

@Joseph: Don't get me wrong, that's a great achievement, but I don't think I made myself clear in my original post.
The point of the weight loss machine was as a hypothetical to illustrate results with no effort. It doesn't matter for the purposes of the argument whether the user gained back the weight they lost, although we may as well amend the original imaginary machine to being a permanent solution. The point was that, if there was the option for weight loss not to be a 'lifestyle choice', why would that option be frowned on? My use of the word 'punishment' was to indicate that, for many, the process of losing weight is a necessary component of losing it. Put simply, as you imply, it is necessary because fat people 'need to learn self-control'. My argument was that this is moralising or adding values to an issue which, fundamentally, has nothing to do with morality or values. After all, if this machine existed, fat people wouldn't need self control at all.
Oh, and I'm not sure if the last bit is directed at me personally or not, but I may as well state that, for the record, I am Scottish, not American. Read into that what you will.

This looks like an updated version of Zygon's Supermind device that Dane Spotts sold in the early 90s.
