Azoo Eco-Desk Puts a Self-Cleaning Aquarium in Your Desk
Posted by Haroon Malik at 12:30 PM on April 27, 2008
I'm pretty sure Missy Elliot had something similar to Azoo's Eco-Desk, which has a self-cleaning tropical fish aquarium contained within a glass and aluminium body. Alas, hers was made by Lamborghini, so this is the poor man's / international female hip-hop star's iteration, but it's still a bit of cool for your apartment. The glass top rests on a hinged support, which can be pulled open to allow Nemo to escape back home, or better yet, add some company to the captives inside. The aquarium contains Azoo's solution for biological, water and temperature control, meaning you don't have to worry about anything other than why your Coi Carp look so damn uncomfortable.
If you have to ask about pricing, well, you know the deal. We'll pass on this one, we just don't think it is very secure—those two mermaids escaped without even smashing the glass. Ridiculous. Hit the link for some more fishy-fun images. [BornRich]

@frigg: I agree man they could like work out something similar to the lobster tanks in other restaurants. Instead of selecting your lobster you select the delciously tasty fish for your sushi. They then kill it and prepare it. After said preparation is complete you consume it.

...because everybody knows the best way to view fish in an aquarium is from directly overhead.

@DozeUser: wouldn't it be kind of hard to have everyone remove their stuff just to take a fish out? Plus I just wouldn't be at ease knowing that I had just killed one of their own and they are all looking at me while I eat it...

When you spill your martini on the table, and it leaks into the tank, do the fish get drunk? Do they become happier?

@frigg: Only if the table was big enough to be an aquarium for everything you were eating + enough room for the chef to prepare + room for those women in the picture to serve it like this:

@DozeUser: Of course, waiters could always open the top, hand out nets and knives, and let their more adventurous customers filet their own fugu (a copy of "Sushi For Dummies" placed thoughtfully beneath every diner's chair). And if sushi makes them squeamish, simply raise the temperature of the tank, add some soy sauce, and call it sukiyaki.

@bosskev: actually viewing fish from overhead is pretty damn cool, especially if the water reaches the glass at the top, so that the view isn't wavy, its a great way to view corals and such too.

@johnnyabnormal: Acquarium Nyotaimori! Now that's a special occasion food that trumps even deep fried twinkies!
Although I imagine the view from the fishtank could wreak numerous psychosocial disorders among the frantic little fishes witnessing what for them must appear to be a kind of apocalyptic orgy across the top of their world.

@bosskev: The article specifically mentions "coi carp", better known as koi. The ONLY proper way to view koi is from overhead. Body conformation, pattern, etc is all judged from this vantage point.
That said, koi can grow to 50"... so obviously this is no habitat for a koi. It would only be suitable for fry and extremely young koi (which are then moved to a big pond). During a kois early years, it can grow over an inch EACH MONTH!

meh... im an aquarium junkie and this just doesn't seem like a very good idea. With a closed top, you'll get a lot of condensation on the glass viewing surface. With that super shallow depth, any evaporation you experience will quickly diminish the already tiny swimming space the fish have. Not to mention that few fish thrive in waters that shallow to begin with. water is also a good conductor of sound, and as much as fish in proper aquariums LOVE to have the glass tapped on constantly, I think making the glass panel a work surface is just a bad idea.
If you're going to keep fish, do it in a proper setting... this is just a bad idea.

@carmen89:
I'm not sure if I was trying to be funny, being a weekend stragler and all that.
I had a dream last night where this tank was filled with Goa'uld symbiotes swimming around and looking evil nasty. That was odd.
