Not feeling enough like a real man with that Bose Portable SoundDock? Well roll up your sleeves past your biceps and grab hold of this Construction Radio and iPod dock. Not only does it snugly hold your iPod, but this 4.5kg US$130 hoss has a spotlight, two power outlets, an SD card slot and a USB jack for charging phones or connecting a music source. Since it’s found in the SkyMall catalog, we don’t have the full drop-test ratings, but anything with that much metal piping is at least bound to protect your iPod’s LCD while you’re off soldering or jigsawing or jackhammering—whatever it is you’re always doing in that shed of yours. Disney’s Cinderella painted a pretty picture of a perverse scene—only the one girl in all the land with the perfectly-proportioned foot could fulfil the prince’s grimy foot fetish. So you can consider the Her Chair a modern Cinderella equivalent…if Cinderella were to have dropped an ass-molded plastic chair during her race against midnight.
Forget boring alarm clocks: now you can buy an alarm toy that looks like a washer, and shows bubbles and vibrates like it’s on spin cycle to wake you. Or one that looks like a ’60s fridge, but has a radio hidden inside, or even a blender that spins and plays ’70s game show themes. How about an iron look-alike clock with a speaker on its foot, an FM radio and a plug to connect up your MP3 player? Or a stove version? They’re dubbed “Homade,” (no, seriously they are) all take AA batteries and are available for between US$17 and US$20. And you want one, you know you do. [Homeloo via DVice]
There’s little we’ve said about our modder buddy Ramon that we haven’t already said back when he made the Zelda, Samus, Rockstar and Clerks Wii mods. This guy is talented AND he has good aesthetic taste—something not commonly found with modders. This time he’s auctioning off this one-of-a-kind Super Mario Galaxy Wii mod that will benefit Child’s Play, the children’s charity started by Penny Arcade. Video hands-on, details and more pics after the jump.
The SofaBOX is pretty much just that—a sofa that fits in a rugged metal box, appearing to pop out when the box is opened (we’re guessing a la delicate pop-up book as opposed to snake-filled can of peanuts). Swiss designer John Hofgartner hasn’t revealed much information about the piece at this time or its intended use. But its closed, coffinesque shape seems perfect for vampires or just the extremely committed goth kid. [swissmiss via dvice]
What can you get from a RC car with some wires attached and a lot of wine bottles? Drunk driving and the Mario theme, that’s what. We have included the complete lyrics so you can sing along after the jump.
Ah, there’s nothing better than sleeping all twisted up in an aeroplane seat, with the gentle glow around the edges of the little plastic window shutter interrupting your snooze-time. Oh wait a minute— that’s rubbish… bed is way better. But clearly designer Charles Cha prefers the aeroplane effect, since that’s what his Jet-Setter Lite is all about. It’s a selectable wall-lamp or uplighter that re-creates that window lighting in your home, controlled by a lever that adjusts the direction of the light cast by its LED lamps. It even looks like a plane window and comes in a swish “1950′s jet age” polished metal frame. Weird, and thankfully just a concept. [Yanko design]
Nokia’s new 6212 classic phone may not be much of a looker, but it’s designed to allow the simplest possible connectivity between two devices. It uses Near Field Communications technology to connect up two devices simply by holding them together, allowing easy photo or ringtone sharing with just one button push. Better yet, it also allows you to store your credit card info on the phone, enabling easy payments that require simply placing the phone on a sensor.
Designer Karim Rashid has turned out this multifunction champagne cooler just in time for the upcoming Milan Design Fair, and we have to admit it’s rather beautiful. Produced in collaboration with Veuve Clicquot, the Globalight is supposed to keep your champers chilled for two hours and also sheds a halo of pink light: sitting on stepping stones in the middle of a lake is optional. Why that pink light, though? Might have a romantic impact on a special evening, perhaps. It’ll certainly have an impact on your wallet: it’s a 500-piece limited edition and costs US$4,000. Ok, this is just another four-way USB hub… but this time it’s a hub with added cuteness to please your kids. And yes, it’s just a mouse-shaped gizmo, rather than a pointing device. The little guy from Brando has four bendable legs containing the USB sockets, is USB2.0 compliant and comes in pink or green (a green mouse?) for just US$12. [Brando via Geekalerts]
