Actually, I'm pretty sure that Nintendo gave out some wii remote controlls that were specifically for the TV.

@Gudranx:
1. The Wiimote sends a signal (via Bluetooth) to the Wii.
2. The Wii flashes the infra-red "sensor" bar.
3. The infra-red signal gets bounced off walls/you/etc. and controls the TV.

Voila! It's like the Rube Goldburg TV remote.
