Pagani Carbon-Fiber Hi-Fi Is Order-Only, Uh-Oh, Expensive
Posted by Addy Dugdale at 9:12 PM on March 10, 2008
Italian supercar manufacturer Pagani has gone into the luxury audio market and produced a carbon fiber-and-brushed aluminum stereo system whose bass speakers looks are reminiscent of the fat exhausts found on its Zonda supercar—at least, that's what the 350-watt speakers look like. Find out what else the Pagani sound system has got under the bonnet after the jump.
There are two turntables (one for 45rpm, one for 33rpm), as well as a power amp, stereo amp and CD player. The system was unveiled at the Geneva car show last week and if you need to ask the price, yeah, yeah, you can't afford it. [Sybarites]

Many high-end audio manufacturers prefer to keep their products as simple as possible, concentrating only on sound(and maybe looks). Audiophile turntables rarely incorporate some of the basic features found on most consumer decks such as the Cue switch and auto-return mechanisms. Examples exist, other than this one, of single speed decks, or some also have the user move the belt onto the bigger gear for 45s manually.

Two turntables is a waste of time. Even the most low-end of tables has a switch for 33/45.

"There are two turntables (one for 45rpm, one for 33rpm)"
I guess someone in the design team has never heard of a switch? It's forgivable though. I have two cars: one that I drive in 1st gear and the other that I drive in 5th gear.

'power amp, stereo amp'? Does that mean a separate power amp and pre amp?

Sounds like we have an unfinished format war on our hands...

What about 78rpm?

This is not the 'blog to be placing info about audiophile level equipment unless you expect fighting and bitching.
That being said, I'm surprised the stand doesn't appear to have more stability, it doesn't look like it would isolate the components against vibrations very well.

@Knirfie: absolutely - some of my best tracks are on 78 ) Elvis, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis for example - and through an old tube amp (mono) it sounds better than a typical CD player.

In other news, Mark Levinson designs a car that can be drawn by two kinds of horses.

Goddamnit. Pagani reminds me of Armani, and if stupid bitches have it high on their 'perceived quality' list, because it's shiny and sexy men are hired to ad it, I'm guessing the speakers really can't be half all that special. You want special and interesting, not blatantly 'car'. Or, how about this, good-sounding?

It looks like a bitch to clean, and no way this is going to fit into audio cabinet. Dust, dust, dust.

@RockoWasTaken: Carbon has other advantages than weight.
Besides, wasn't this the same blog where people bitch about Plasma TVs being too heavy? Maybe a carbon plasma is all that is needed.

@sibbe: "By Order Only" which, in English, means "If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it".

Only rich people would be dumb enough to pay a premium price for carbon fiber on products that you don't actually have to worry about weight.

@Knirfie: There are some *really* nice 78rpm turntables out there. In fact, there are some really nice turntables out there that most people wouldn't even recognize - 16-inch tables, 16rpm tables for voice-only recordings, etc. The wonderful world of pressed vinyl can consume you if you let it; I barely got out alive.
Some say I didn't. Those 25,000 records in my listening room say I'm still addicted.

Car Manufacturers hire Designers from all across the board, and these designers can't help but dream up other stuff in their spare time, which is fine, but the burning question is, how did they approach their bosses with their ideas?
And why didn't the bosses fire them for not focusing on their job, and day dreaming of useless stuff other than making cars.!! hmm
No Seriously, how?

can we stop arguing over whether or not CF speakers are useful?
the fact of the matter is, this set is more expensive than any of us average joes can afford, but looks fucking beautiful. and probably sounds close to top-notch too. if i ever get rich enough to drive a zonda, i'll probably put a set of pagani speakers, a mac pro with 2 30 inch cinema HD displays, and an optimus on my shopping list too.

Well if the Pagani Zonda F costs roughly $850,000 then these should be about, oh $150,000.
