Orbit Wheel Skates are Like Roller Blades, Just Less Fun
Posted by Adam Frucci at 2:45 AM on March 12, 2008
These Orbitwheel skates aren't quite rollerblades, they aren't quite skateboards and they aren't quite a trip to the emergency room, but they're pretty close to all three. They're essentially wheels that you slip your feet through the middle of, letting you scoot around sideways until you go over a curb or a rut and end up on the ground. They're available now for a kind-of-ludicrous price of US$145 if you're so inclined. [New Davincis]

It looks like the guy is constantly about to fall. At least people will get out of your way.

I dunno. People bitched about the Heelys. Those are pretty big with the kids ... and it's only one fucking wheel.

@Gravity: I have a pair, and let me tell you, they're _awesome_.

Same Concept as Freeline Skates only with your feet inside of the wheel.

Looks like the same method of riding as Freeline Skates, except with the advantage of being able to pull your feet up and take the skate with you.

i love the smokin special fx at about 15 sec...very necessary. i see a 'blown hammy' in the future for 90% of the users of this thing. way too easy to get one leg going the 'wrong' way (in comparison to the other leg).

Let's see what the drama prairie dog has to say about it.

I may be showing my age, but I remember these same comments being made about the skateboard when I was a kid and about rollerblades when they were still only used by skiers staying in shape over the summer, and about heelys last year... (To be fair the heelys comment was made by me to my daughter and she is still in one piece and quite masterful with the horrible things.)

You know... Neat idea and all but I think this'll take off as much as those articulated skateboards did a few years back. Like not at all.

@Way:
I think the rider is probably too embarrassed to be caught using those things on the tubes.

Still, very nicely made.

Note that they only film the "rider" from the waist down. I'm convinced that he's flailing like a lunatic above the frame. Especially when trying to ascend that slight incline.

To be nice today, the design of the wheels themselves are pretty cool, they're just being used for the wrong thing.

@Brian B:
I blade a lot, and I'd probably rock these; WITH a bit of shame however.

I think these are sweet! Bigger diameter wheel = fewer endos from bumps vs. Freelines. I'm an old skater, but I'd rock these without shame.

1. It is easy to wear.
2. It is easy to carry.

Pussy repeller tech: "Hi, I'd like order a latte with cum...up...sense"...PLOP. Head bleeding. Ambulance-calls, half the cute girls accidently calling 411 instead of 911, out of habit. "No no, I'm frine, weely." Ambulances compete. One succeeds since you can't exactly run away with wheels on your damned shoes.
No power? POWER. No breaks. BREAKS.
POWER AND BREAKS? Check. Uh, just kidding. Just gravity and a wiggle motion to move you forward on flat surfaces, and very much down hills.
Now add some real gas engines with some real mufflers to them, and I'm good with it:
