Meizu Adding Live Messenger to iPhone Vapourware Clone
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 7:47 PM on March 31, 2008
The apparently incombustible Meizu CEO, Jack Wong, has just announced that they are going to add Live Messenger to their M8 mobile phone, the rather pathetic and sad motherboard that wants to be an iPhone clone when it grows up (if it ever gets released). In other words: new vapourware announced for vapourware. The usual cynics are probably asking themselves "why should I care about this crap?" Which is exactly what we are asking ourselves right now. I think it's kind of pathetic that you all bash this phone, even before it's released.
To be honest with you, I'm quite excited about this little phone. Are there any other companies out there that have gotten THIS much attention - before even showing off a prototype? I mean, that shit at CES was bullshit, even the owner of the company said so.
Oh well...

It's kind of pathetic that a company can't come up with their own ideas and need to keep stealing Apples.

I think it's kind of prophetic that you all bash this phone, even before it's released.
Your past coverage of Meizu has shown us that attention to a product does not equal attention to details INSIDE a product and that it will, in all likelihood suck a monkey.
@Bani-Banan: I think your hope is badly misplaced.

@Bani-Banan:
Well, if you want to put your faith in a company that made it's name making poor quality clones of existing products made by other companies then you just go right ahead!
More power to ya!
I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that, what with all the original products being available from companies that have made THEIR names...uh...making original products, but it's a big universe.
There's room for all kinds of crazy crap.
I hope also that Meizu knocks our battery-powered socks off, really!
Let me know when it happens.

There's enough hatred in the world. I just try to give some of my human love to a product that has been bashed by a lot of tech-bloggs.
Oh well...

I have to agree with you. Their mp3players interface is iPod knock-off a lá grande. Which sucks ass.
One reason why I defend Meizu is because Steve Jobs ass is so tight, Swedish companies can't show their dicks up his ass. Now, why would I such a thing? I want the iPhone. I could get one. Heck, Ebay is the shit. However, the warranty is a big plus. 3 year warranty, that covers APPLE'S mistakes (Yes, Sweden has a LAW that states that companies have to provide FREE repair on their products if they break).
Oh well. Cheap knock-offs will do.

@Bani-Banan: Hah, if you're worried about a warranty or support with Meizu, keep dreaming. I had a Miniplayer and the OS got friend up... The only support I got was from the Meizu Forums. I had to download some Samsung firmware tool to re-flash the Meizu's operating system. Apples support isn't the best, but it's gonna be a lot better than Meizu's.

maybe if every news outlet or blog that is reporting and talking up the Meizu "vaporware" actually stopped talking about it - then maybe it might dissipate as many vapors do_
out of sight - out of mind - and maybe it will just go away?

The fact that the design is constantly changing in tiny increments, and that the supporters of this thing don't notice, are surely signs of the End Times.

Meizu is really good at adding features to products that don't exist.
I think they should add a fusion reactor while they're at it.

Wow, gee, it must be HARD to bring a device like the iPhone to market. Who would have thought? Gotta love those Chinese business practices, though. I think it goes something like this:
1. Show a glorious render of an impossibly thin device with a feature list which grants every iPhone-hater's wishes. Say it will ship "soon" at a comparatively low price.
2. Every month or two, release a slightly modified render. After 9 months, switch to physical prototypes. Drop one or two features with each iteration. Gradually increase thickness, and remove expensive materials from build. Raise expected price periodically.
3. Promise journalists interviews with executives and hands-on experiences with the hardware. After journalist travels halfway around the world to get to you, renege on all interviews, deny access to prototypes, and tell him, "you come back one month."
4. Ship a mediocre knock-off, at an unattractive price, after 16 months of hype. Product will bear only basic similarities (basic form factor, OS, radio) to the original concepts that got everyone so excited.

I, for one, am getting completely sick of Giz' pavlovian devotion to printing every burp out of Meizu on this POS vaporware. If I want to read about gizmos that will never exist, I'll flip over to io9.

@Kiamat: you do realize like 79% of the news on sites like this are rumors that never come through.
Also, you cannot judge the quality of a device just by the looks of it. I mean it is kinda hard to make a touchscreen without it looking iphoneish. If we are going by this then the iphone itself is a clone of the LG prada, since it was announced before the iphone was even talked about.
So long story short, the world doesnt revolve around apple. I admit they are a good company but I am not going to worship them like a god, like most of the people here who bash anything that competes with apple.
Btw, if it does have a copy of the full msn plus "group convo's included" then I will be impressed since all chat clients on the iphone so far are lacking on some of the more advance and usefull features.
