Helio Ocean 2 Hits FCC, First Impression is Same Old Same-Old
Posted by Haroon Malik at 9:30 AM on March 30, 2008
The FCC has just leaked this image of Helio's Ocean 2. How do we know that? Well, it's carrying an OZ2 model and OZ was the alternative moniker of the original Helio Ocean. We can't tell much else from the drawing, such as whether the Mark 2 Ocean will have the dual slider of its older brother, but we can see the body design will remain true to the original. However, having been overly impressed by the original, we're sure this baby is going to kick arse whenever it does land. [FCC via Crunch Gear]

Look for great things coming from the Helio camp. We have seen a prototype of the Ocean 2 also known as OZ2, but we can't say much. We will be offering discounted upgrades for the Ocean 2 for all of our customers after just 6 months of service, this way you can get the Ocean now and then upgrade to the Ocean 2 when it comes out which should be 8 months away.

Wonder what the front looks like, because this is just the general shape of it.

When I worked in one of Helio's retail stores(last summer), some of the tech guys came in from HQ and were talking about this. They said it looked pretty much the same but was thinner and might be available in white. On the thinner part, think of if it had the same functionality(dual-slider) but lost the thickness to the equivalent of the silver middle piece. I never actually saw it though, so this is all hearsay.

Helio, I wish you'd come out with more coverage.

I just hope this is a sign that Helio as a carrier is going to stick around...I'm very seriously considering a switch when my T-Mobile contract is up this fall.

It'd be way better if it had a bigger screen because even though i havent seen it that screen does seem small and it'd probably suck ass using aim on that thing or browsing the internet.

Some planets are so cold they could support oceans of liquid Helio...
What?

One thing I hate about virgin mobile is their phones are always crippled and really boring. The helio phones + features are usually quite impressive, but the price of service isn't quite as impressive (wish for internet, could care less about talk time)

It's going to land, as you say, about 18 months before helio, sprint or both go out of business.
AHAHAHAH! AHAHAHAH! AHAHAHAH!

Please, for the love of god, overhaul the buggy interface. Also, a new web browser would be nice. Kthx Helio/Pantech.
P.S. A larger touch screen, thinner profile, and better camera would be nice as well.
P.P.S. Man oh man, does the current web browser suck, please update it.
P.P.P.S. Also, better coverage would be nice seeing as I can't even take a call where I work, which isn't exactly in the middle of no where. Actually, it's in Orlando still. So why can't I have decent coverage? Oh yeah, because you chose Sprint. God I hate you Helio. I'm totally getting an iPhone... or that shiny Xperia X1.

Helio should give up the service provider role and just focus on handsets for when Verizon opens it's network. I'd love one of these with Verizon network and customer service!

Funny this should show up the day I destroy my Helio Ocean.
I broke the screen doing stupid things.
My service was canceled today.
So, I took it apart.
The Helio Ocean is too heavy, too thick, too slow.

I just destroyed my Helio Icean. First, I broke the screen, then, I got a job. Now it is iPhone time. The Ocean is too heavy and too slow.

"The Helio Ocean is too heavy, too thick, too slow."
I completely agree with you guys.
Im getting an iPhone today... hahaha.
The Ocean worked good for about 2 months but after that it just took a major dump.

I'm slightly dissapointed by ocean. They made all sorts of claims of constant updates to new features and software, and so far all I've seen besides the youtube program is a bunch of stealing from third party developers (namely the opera browser). I'm waiting to see how the next gen iphone turns out or HTC's dream googlephone and then I'm probably going to drop helio.
