Finnish Spitzer Sends 200 Sex SMS to Exotic Dancer and Her Sister

An SMS-savvy Finnish Foreign Minister has joined former New York governor Eliot Spitzer in the "thinks with the wrong head" club this week. The 60-year-old Ilkka Kanerva was discovered to have sent more than 200 text messages to an exotic dancer named Johanna Tukiainen, 29. And her sister! Despite the fact that Kanerva's longtime parter said she's not bothered by her man's wandering eyes (or should that be fingers?), people are still calling for a resignation. More below.
The Finnish press got a hold of a few text gems sent by the minister, including this vague pick up line that may or may not be related to musical waterbeds: "Would you like to do it in an exotic place? Where could it be?" When asked if 'it' meant sex, Kanerva said it was obvious that the message was an answer to an earlier inquiry from Tukiainen.
We at Gizmodo are inclined to believe the minister; he was probably referring to their upcoming coffeehouse debate about the subtle differences between the Centre Party of Finland and the more even-handed (although no less capable) approach to governing taken by the National Coalition Party. Or maybe he was just trying to get laid with the exotic dancer, and her sister. We think her name's Debra.
AU: Hopefully Warney will never enter politics, or this kind of scandal would be all too frequent...

@MastaFalse: EXACTLY. I live in Finland, and this whole thing is soooo preposterous. The press blew it totally out of proportion. IMO, SMSing an erotic dancer doesn't have anything to do with how competent you are at your job, and it's totally ridiculous that people are demanding that he step down.

Here's what fucks my brain with an red-hot fire poker: what does it have to do with anything? Why are peoples' positions jeopardized because they like sex? Doesn't a guy supposedly think about sex every three seconds? Is that a PROBLEM? Does it interfere with his job, or is he using money that isn't his to pay prostitutes to suck him off as he takes a shit on the nation's flag? People have private lives that are too easily made public, and up until now it was never really anybody else's fucking business. So why are people calling for a resignation? Don't we have GENITALS for a reason? What were they made for, to stay in our pants? Goddamnit. Big fucking deal. We're all human.

I live in Finland, this doesn't happen that often here afaik. But, that guy is really stupid. And since Finland is such a small place, this has been in the news forever and ever... And I'm actually HAPPY to see this at giz xD. Such a stupid man.

The whole debacle is ridiculous: even before Kanerva became a minister, there have been numerous similar cases. It's common knowledge he likes to chase skirt, so nothing has really changed. He's been a member of parliament since 1975 and all the time these "scandals" pop up. I think the last time was with her. Rumour has it, he even "worked his charm" on Condoleezza Rice on their first meeting. But in the end, he has been a good foreign minister, so why resign?

It would be "Tuuksä?" which is also used in speech. It is kind of a dialectic expression, but everyone understands it. The correct form of the question would be "Tuletko sinä?" The Finnish language actually has no future tense, but the listener has to guess if the present-tense-expression means future this certain time or not.
And well, the Press is making this whole thing bigger than it really is. No one really gives a flying saucer about Ilkka's "GIEF POON KK PLIX"-SMSing. It's just that atm the yellow press has nothing better to brag about, so they claim that everyone wants the minister to leave his job (which is not true because, as said, no one gives a...etc).
