DIY Laser Security System Will Entrap Any Burglar Except Catherine Zeta Jones' Ass

What do you do when you have a few transistors, some capacitors, a lot of mirrors, a bunch of HandiTak and one laser? If you are McGyver, probably a intercontinental ballistic missile interceptor. If you are Kipkay, you'll do a laser-based home alarm system similar to the one used in Entrapment, the movie. And if this wasn't a good enough excuse to post the picture above, you can jump to see the video on how it is all done.
All this is great, but what the heck is El Zorro doing with a Maglite? And does the inventor have a side-job as voice over actor for QVC? These are the questions that bug me about this whole thing, but Catherine makes up for all of them. [Instructables]

@92BuickLeSabre: Well, that can be managed, I can't wait to fire up my BBQ grill for the first time this year.
Next semester will be less work intensive than the past one, so there'll be many occasions you can drop by.
There's always alot of self-prepared meat, fresh bread, a couple of salads made by my best friends girlfriends and enough cool beer for everyone.

@Xavoc: Vincent Cassell in "Ocean's 12"? That was Capoeira. But, it is pretty well documented that kids doing Capoeira moves in NYC during the early 80's had a huge influence on break dancing, so they are very related.

I started licking the monitor upon seing the picture and when they said "video," I figured it was her lovely self slithering amongst the laser beams... but no - it's some shmo looking stupid - thanks for ruining a perfectly good happy ending giz!

On the other hand this would be cute. Especially if the receiving unit could trigger the laser from Real Genius back along the same return route of mirrors when the beam was interrupted.

There is another form thats HARd to find..
There is an atmospheric/barometric/air movement one thats about $60. And when a Door or window is opened in a TIGHT home, it goes off.
This is cool also, but is better for 1 room.
Another is adding this to a PHONE DIALER, or computer.

... instead of all that.. buy a cheap night light - one of the ones that turns on automatically when it gets dark - cut the wires that go to the light and replace that part with the siren.. set the laser up same way as in this - and wala same thing only easier and much faster.
did this back in 8th grade - only.. instead of a siren I had mine trigger a spark from one of those model rocket sets - the wires went into a glass jar filled with bleach crystals.. and boom nice home made trip wire bomb. ..... and a trip to the hospital..
mom was not as impressed as I was.
