Backpack Fridge For High Tech Picnic Action
Posted by Sean Fallon at 10:15 AM on March 14, 2008
Coolers get the job done, but you have to deal with ice and the fact that the bulky boxes are often awkward to carry. I'm lazy, which means that I want to get my beer from point A to point B as easily as possible (and I'm not willing to ride a Cruzin Cooler to do it.) The "Boxcooler" concept from designer Sebastian Bertram offers a stylish solution with a backpack cooled by refrigeration.
Thermoelectric Peltier elements would replace traditional freezer batteries to keep food fresher, longer and the compact design makes it easy to pack and carry. However, even with a space saving design I don't see much room for all that beer I was talking about earlier—and it would probably be the most expensive picnic basket of all time. On the plus side, check out the exposed thong in the drawing. Nice. [Yanko Design]

but does it make everyone's g-string show? I mean I'd hate to be walking along the beach and have a visiable g-string... I hate that don't you?

I'm a big fan of excessive pocketry, and can easily have 12 beers on my person without walking funny or anything. That last part changes dramatically once they're IN my person, though.

So this is to help you carry your cold beer from one place to another on a hot day right? Sounds good but peltier elements cool one side of a special metal plate by heating the other. Where is the heat going to go? Blow onto your neck? Your back? I'll opt for the $8 thing I have now that uses ice and works great.
Plus if drinking its contents makes me forget where I put the cooler no great loss.

This would be nice for all of my alcoholic friends to have at Mardi Gras. They are always griping about someone stealing their beer out of their coolers when they walk to the street to see a parade.
Nah... doesn't look like it could hold more than a 12 pack. Scratch that.

When was the last time someone had a picnic that went beyond eating take out at a park table? Hell, when was the last time take out made it as far as a park table?
It may be just me, but those 1950s pictures of picnics looked like too much work: packing to go, setting up and packing up to leave; and then dealing with the park fauna (Ants, deer, Yogi the bear, birds, homeless bums)
Interesting concept and points for thong in diagram.

Then drink it and start walking.

Listen, you're doing a great job without telepathically helping yourself to my friendly suggestions...
You made a great comment nb:
""I want to get my beer from point A to point B as easily as possible"
Then drink it and start walking." Good laff!
On a more serious note, I'm wondering, since you mentioned:
Is it even possible for an orifice to have an orifice?
