CSR Creates BlueVox2, the Five-Buck Bluetooth Headset Chip
11:26PM Addy Dugdale | CSR, the UK-based company with over 50 percent of the market share of Bluetooth products, has created BlueVox2, a cheap mono headset with low power consumption—CSR claims 15 hours talk time—and noise reduction. The tiny chip has AuriStream, allows simultaneous connection to multiple devices and supports Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Will we see this filtering down to headset manufacturers? Hope so. Silverlit V-Beat Air Drums—Motion-Sensor Sticks for Schmucks
10:31PM Addy Dugdale | Silverlit, purveyors of remote-controlled things that fly, have come up trumps with their V-Beat Air Drums. Containing motion sensors (but, sadly, no neon tips like you see in the picture) they are the beans to the toast that is the V-Beat air guitar. Plug your iPod into the control box and drum along to whatever you fancy. There’s even some kind of pedal thingy that lets you drum with your feet, although the protruding wires made me think “shoe bomb.” Video of the US$60 friend-isolator after the jump. More »

iPhone to Get GPS Add-on, Courtesy of Nav N Go’s iGO MyWay 8
9:26PM Addy Dugdale | At CeBIT this week, Nav N Go has been showing off its ghetto-looking iGO MyWay 8 for an “upcoming yet-to-be-announced iPhone GPS receiver.” There’s no more information beyond that, except that the software looks quite boring and doesn’t seem to fully exploit the capabilities of multitouch. Smart Mug Tells You if Your Tea is Hot or Not
8:00PM Gizmodo US Edition | This mug automagically tells you when its contents are hot or not with a colour change and the words “Hot” and “Cold.” Cunning, eh? Might save you from a burnt lip or two, or alert you that the temperature is low enough if you’re one of those strange types who waits for their tea to go cold. It’s not exactly ground-breaking technology, but it’s a darn elegant application of it. Available on pre-order for US$25. [Technabob] More »

Samsung Adds a Little Elegance With The PAVV 650 LCD TV
7:56PM Gizmodo US Edition | Samsung has added more TVs to their PAVV line, this time three high-end LCDs at 40, 46 and 52 inches. Incorporating a new LCD panel, dubbed “crystal rose,” the TVs have slim-bezel cases with touches of red, which at least makes them a dash more elegant than the usual run-of-the-mill black boxes. Samsung has also upped the eco-friendliness by avoiding volatile organic compounds in the design. The screens are 120Hz, Full HD and use the Digital Natural Engine technology. They’ll be available in Korea at first, then worldwide by the end of April, for between US$3,375 and US$6,120. [Akihabara News and Korea Times] More »

In addition to this, we just got all the dirt in the internal memo, aptly titled “HD DVD – The End,” which allegedly was posted in an internal Circuit City forum: More »

3:57PM Nick Broughall | Could it be true? The SMH is reporting today that Channel Seven is considering ditching TiVo before it’s even launched to instead get behind a “Freeview” PVR with all the other networks. The joint venture is an attempt by the free-to-air networks to take the fight to Foxtel.
The Freeview PVR will be based on the successful Freeview unit available in the UK, and would be released early next year. It would give users access to all the free-to-air digital stations, which would number at about 15 once the networks launch their second SD channels next year. More »
