Nokia N82 Smartphone Reviewed In Depth (Verdict: High-end Hotness)
Posted by Jason Chen at 10:30 AM on February 6, 2008
Nokia's N82, which is essentially their high end N95 in a candybar body may cost US$550, but WirelessInfo found that the slightly high price tag gets you what you paid for. Here's a summary of WiInf had to say.
The camera's not as good as the N95's, but it's still great. Audio quality is good, keypad is "fiddly", messaging isn't as good as a BB or a Windows Mobile phone, solid battery life, no US 3G (yet), and good GPS/FM functionality. In the end, it's up to you whether you can justify a $550 price tag for a non-touchscreen phone without support for 3G in the US.
AU: I'm waiting to hear back from Nokia on the local price, but I can tell you that when it does launch in Oz, it definitely will have 3G. HSDPA, even.[Wireless Info]

Hey Guys.
I've been quoted an Australian Price of $879 outright for this particular handset.

That's strange because pretty much every other review rates this as the best 5mp camera on a phone.
Personally, I don't see it but that's what a lot of reviews have said.
However, it's a hideous phone in the flesh, so I'd never waste my money on one.

If this or the N95 had a qwerty, I'd be all over it. :\

the lack of qwerty has me a bit stumped. even the half qwerty that my pearl has is better than the straight up number pad...until of course someone tells you a phone number in letters. then you're boned

It's the same camera. But with AF assist and Xenon-flash. That makes it better. I browsed sampled from several sites, and they look decent for a phone. I am certainly impressed with it's low-lux performance.

Mix this with 3g and an N810 and it would take Apple years to catch up with the iphone.

Knowing the Google OS release is imminent, how can one look at a current $550 phone the same?

But still, this thing has to be the ugliest cell phone in a while...

This is a phone that is in very high demand. I sell tons of them every week and I have a serious amount of black and white N82 models.
I told myself that I would never own another phone that lacks 3G but I enjoy the phone way too much and have been able to live without it.

wow, isn't it more of a high-end n73 instead?
Just go get it in some chinese phone shop, sign up for 2 year plan, and knock up to $400 off for the phone.

Besides the screen size and the look of the phone, it's better in every aspect compared to N95 8GB.
Battery is better and camera is much better (and perfectly quick), not to mention the xenon flash (makes night photos as good as any entry-level compact camera).
The OS is lightning fast (especially compared to N73, but even N95 8GB ;), GPS locks very quickly (e.g the Sports Tracker app usually locks GPS around 30 sec).
It also feels good in the hand. But you have to live with the screen-size and the controversial design.
I agree, this is the update to the N73, not the N95. I would guess a press release next week with N95 successor. It'll be a year for N95 in April. (My December N95 8GB purchase seems a big mistake after trying the N82 and N96 coming :-(

Is it just me or does this look like the Nokia designers broke into Sony Ericssons headquarters and ripped off some of the Sony Ericsson mobile phones?
Maybe next time they are planning a slider they should rip off Samsung to avoid making something that looks like two matchboxes painted black.

WoW another expensive phone from Nokia without a qwerty keyboard. I think this has to be one of the worst looking phones ive ever seen. Nokia get it through your thick skulls that when people pay that much for a phone that does browsing and email you need a freakin' keyboard
