Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 and 7000 Slim Down, Get Slanty Like Sports Cars
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 2:33 AM on February 6, 2008
Perhaps the biggest deal about Microsoft's latest pair of laser mice—Laser Mouse 6000 and 7000—is that they break from the standard form factor for MS grippers—less glaringly round, and more about lines and angles. They certainly look sexier than past models, but the big test is: How do they feel?
Both use 2.4 GHz wireless (hum), track at 1,000 dpi, have one-touch Flip 3D access (yay?) and tell you in pretty colours how much juice they have left. The bigger desktop model, 7000, is black and rechargeable (and US$70), while the mid-sized 6000 is meant to hit both desktops and notebooks, with a portable receiver (and runs US$50). [Microsoft]

I like MS Mice. I like using my Logitech MX mouse. I dislike proprietary USB keys/devices that broadcast wifi or bluetooth rather than using the Builtin Bluetooth.
Anyway, these are cheaper than Logitech. I wonder how they feel too. Hope they don't need too many updates (like Logitech does on a quaterly basis)
Why can't they make these to use the PC/Mac Bluetooth builtin???

I'm sorry, but, it can track at 1,000 dpi?
...are they serious?
Looks isn't everything... I rather take functionality over looks ANY day.
Someone tell the MS boys to catch up on their hardware, 3200DPI are selling like hotcakes these days...

@xint: My Logitech G7 was bought as a gaming mouse - it 'only' goes up to 2000dpi, but I only use 800-1200, even in games. Seeing that Microsoft isn't advertising this as a gaming mouse, I'd say 1000dpi would be fine.

Because not everybody has built in bluetooth. It'd be better if it had the ability to connect to it as well as having the dongle.

@xint:
3200 dpi is overkill unless you work in gfx production or the like. Even gamers who have 3200dpi mice opt down for 800-1200 dpi.

Not nearly enough buttons to match my mx518.
Why doesn't anyone put more buttons on their mice? When I'm playing games I have a trillion buttons I can push with my left hand, give me more bindable buttons on my mouse hand already!

@aelver: Fuckin' A. I checked around for different kinds of wireless mice, and all of them are made for righties, which is why I've never purchased any. South paws are people too! You bastards!

@SomeoneUKno: I'm a lefty, but I've always used mice right-handed. I don't really know why. I guess I just want to be able to use any righty-configured mouse comfortably....
