Limited Edition Jawbone Headsets Look Incredible
Posted by Jason Chen at 10:00 AM on February 29, 2008
The default Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth headsets already look quite stylish for a Bluetooth headset, but these Yves Behar-created limited edition sets beat his originals by quite a bit. The white, brown and black headsets are smooth, unlike the pock-marked original design, and represent trash talk, sweet talk and dirty talk, respectively. We can't quite make out what the picture for sweet talk is supposed to be, but the dirty and trash talk are obvious. If we didn't already own a Jawbone for our in-the-car conversations, we'd nab one of these ASAP. [Fuse Project via Josh Spear via Yanko]

So when can we buy the new Jawbone Limited Edition?

@djfred: It isn't so much watching a conversation happening with someone wearing a BT headset - it's the people who wear it for long periods of time without talking on it that really pushes someone into the stratosphere of tooldom. I've seen people walking around for hours without taking or making a phone call -- sorry, that'll never not be dumb looking. Ever.

Does anyone else agree with Gizmodo that these headsets look not just good, but incredible?

@odnet: I'm in Cali too but I'm going with a visor clip speakerphone. I got one for the wife and she's happy with it. I'll get a cooler one, though ;-)

I've got a regular jawbone. It works great. I don't use it that often and even less in public but when I do, I do and I could care less about what anyone else thinks about it.
It always cracks me up that people think that it's somehow less obnoxious to carry on a cellphone conversation in the middle of a grocery store because they have a receiver pressed to their ear.

how can anybody think that looks nice, it's a rectangle. The Jabra looks so much better.

It ain't the looks that's the problem with the Jawbone it's the design. Two of those cheap metal ear hooks have just snapped off in the pocket of my jeans and the ear rubber ear pad is constantly falling off. I hate stuff that looks cool but breaks and falls apart.

People who wear these blue tooth headsets are the equivalent to those who wore the infamous cellphone clip in the past, simply people with bad taste and thus lack of class.

See, here i sit, a dirty hippy, in my own office at 23 years old with no college education designing machined parts in 3D - and while that puts me in a strange demographic (for a hippy), i would not EVER buy or wear any kind of BT headset.
then again i just said in the other thread that traitorous pigs deserve to be shot.
im a weird kind of hippy, i guess.

@workingonyourinvoice: Yeah, I was surprised when I got mine. I was a little disappointed because I envisioned it to be much smaller. However, it does work great although I wish it came with a smaller ear bud. Apparently I have very narrow ear canals.

@workingonyourinvoice: It only really bothers me when people wear them in the fscking movie theatre. Believe it or not I do not want to watch your fscking earpiece flash for 2 hours, now please take it off and stop looking like a distracting tool.
Otherwise, they're fun to watch for. Like the time the guy at Wendy's handed me my food. Big gold watch, grill covering his teeth, pale skin, and a bluetooth mic in his ear.

@odnet: Take it from one of "those guys": Trust me, life is much more fulfilling when you stop giving a shit about people branding you because you choose to keep your bluetooth in your ear instead of being self-conscious about it and leaving it in the car.

gah, I wish I didnt have to start looking at hands free setups. California is requiring them to talk in the car pretty soon. Ill be one of "those guys", but Ill make sure to leave it in the car. I hate going to the grocery store, and seeing soccer moms talking to cat food.. only to realize there is an earpiece in their head. I would much rather them be talking to cat food.

@Coder4Life: Do you have any idea how huge Jawbones are? You'd have to be some kind of dirty hippy with shoulder length hair and bushy ass sideburns for anybody to miss it. In which case you probably aren't the target demographic for any of these.

you people do know that you wear this aroudn your ear. Meaning that you can't actually see it while using it.. and most people already think you are an idiot when you walk around wearing that...
So whats' the point of buying that?

it's strange what makes for a good looking BT earpiece - the more nondescript, the better, appearantly. It's the complete opposite of, say, a good looking car instrument cluster.

@workingonyourinvoice: Well this is why most contemporary cars have built in support for cellphones and the very reason why the speaker functionality exist in most phones out there. Besides if you were considered of other motorists, you would keep your in car calls to their bare minimum.

@Tohe: Bluetooth = bad taste? I'm sorry I missed that one. I guess driving a manual shift makes it impossible for me to imagine driving with a phone lodged up against my ear. When I see people driving and trying to wrestle with a phone I get offended, but that's just me.

These look great - although I have reservations of a white BT headset - How long before they look disgusting.
I just recently got a Jawbone and I have to say I love it. It sounds better than my iPhone's ear piece and mic, and I got lucky that one of the included earpieces actually fits me comfortably.

They need to sit in your ear like a hearing aid. That would be the ultimate bluetooth headset. Something that doesn't interfere with my sunglasses. My wife just got a Motorola headset that doesn't need those stupid ear clip things, that works pretty well. For now I'll just stay with this. [web.mac.com]

For some reason "tasteless" people think it is fashionable and end up using bt headsets like the infamous cellphone clip in the past as I previously pointed out. You don't see designers like Galliano, Armani or models like Chad White using these pieces as a fashion statement, then why should you? it is foolish, and pure nonsense to have said headsets hanging from your ear all day long. It also projects you as someone who is lazy to the point that you can't simply remove the piece from your ear, it is just stupid!

It's sad....I'm on my second bluetooth phone, and I can really see a need for a headset while driving, but the Tools out there have ruined the image. Too many people feel the need to use the phone whenever they can just because they CAN. Instead of being the person you can always reach, I'm proud to be the type of person from which you may have to wait for a callback.
I don't need another leash to my job. I think I'll sit by an casually NOT use my phone whe it is inappropriate. The skit on Larry David's show really enforced it - you might as well be talking to an imaginary person.
That said, I've tried a jawbone, and it is worth the money....it is the best one I've tried. I'm lucky to not need it.

@Tohe: My car isn't quite that new. I'm happy to have the <$200 car payment though, and the bluetooth works fine for me as opposed to fighting to pair it with some in car solution. Plus, if I use another car, I won't be hosed.
And I'll see what I can do about keeping my in car calls to a bare minimum so I can be "considered" of other motorists (whatever that means).

@djfred: Most people who use a receiver as oppose to a bt headset, place the receiver in their pockets, purses etc.. once the call is ended, they don't carry on throughout their day with it attached to their ear .. so yeah good point there buddy!

@packetsniffer: Me. Too bad I just bought a different BT headset tonight. Damn!
I have a friend who has a Jawbone. She loves it. Says it sounds awesome and the noise cancellation is great. She can wear it in the car with the windows down and not have the person on the other end just hear 'whoosh'. Oh, and BTW, she's currently suffering from a wrist problem where the doctors have forbidden her from using her wrist so she needs to use a headset to talk on the phone. So, some people just have to use a headset, it's not because they're trying to look like a tool.
I'd rather people used Bluetooth than those stupid Nextel push to talk phones. Everytime I hear that Nextel beep I want to go postal on that phone and smash it over the head of the jackass using it. I don't want to hear your end of a conversation, I certainly don't want to hear both sides.

@Lizard_King: btw, do you know that it has been SHOWN statistically that most traffics are due to most fart and "can't multi-task" drivers driving below the speed LIMIT cuz they're feaking talkin on their phone with one hand or the other? and also, most accidents are due in part to drivers talking with a phone in their hands....so this tool (BT) is needed in some situations...
Put that in mind.

Accidents happen mostly because of distractions caused by emotional distress provoked by the actual conversations, not the devices... Frankly I'm tired of hearing all these lame excuses, don't feel like you must excuse yourselves to hang that thing on your ear, do it, make a fool out of yourself, I don't care, I'll just laugh at you :)

I have a $10 jabra "my first Bluetooth!" headset. I'm trying to come up with a way to kill that blue blinking light... Its dirt cheap and if I break it I'll just get a visor clip on speaker phone. The only time I use the Bluetooth is driving or VOIP, and really, what do you need to be doing while talking on the phone that requires hands free? When you see empty handed business people walking around with BT headsets on (lunch hour on market st in Philly you would see like 20 people lined up at the Marathon Grill all rocking' headsets), I wonder if their hands are recovering from being planted firmly up their own asses.

When I'm in my car (which, incidentally enough, is also a 6MT), the cellphone is turned off. Any calls can wait until I get out of the car...
While I do have a Jawbone, the only time I use it is if I have to be on a cellphone and do something like type on a keyboard at the same time. Otherwise, the headset is turned off, and stowed in my laptop bag.
