The new LEGO Clone Wars sets announced at Toy Fair 2008, to be released just in time for the new Clone Wars animated movie and TV series, look nice. "Nice" as opposed to awesome giant bombers, ingenious Steam Wars, funny Indiana Jones, good old classic Star Wars or some of the best sets ever. Still, nice. This looks very similar to the Hornet in Halo 3. It just doesn't have the jumpseats for the two gunners. It even has the dual machine guns and dual missiles.

I liked the Clone Wars. It was waaaay better than the 2nd movie. I love how Mace Windu is shown as a complete Jedi badass...

@Jesus Diaz: I think the front and back of Vader's Advanced TIE Fighter cockpit were new... were the flexible "fences" on the back of the Falcon's blue propulsion jets new? Anybody know?

@Jesus Diaz: Hear hear.
We take many pieces for granted that didn't come around until the mid 70's or later.

They don't have that many special pieces. In fact, I think they have none that weren't existing before.
And in any case, all these pieces are great to build awesome custum models of all kinds. I'm of the opinion that with LEGO is better to embrace change and taking advantage of it rather than just dissing it for the sake of it.

I hate when they have all those custom pieces. OUT OF BOX LEGO MODELS UP.

Wow, it amazes me how much of a better actor the digital representation of Anakin Skywalker is than the kid who played him in episodes 2 & 3.

I keep thinking the gunship needs to sound like a UH-1 considering it has the same role.

@alexmg2420:
Of course, this design came first, so I'd say Halo's Hornet resembles this instead.
@Buran:
Funny, the MI-35 "Hind" is what this thing more closely resembles. The double canopy on the Star Wars design was even modeled after this one.

@Jesus Diaz: My age is showing, I don't recall a lot of those pieces. I had the big green lawn looking piece and some blocks. By candlelight. Uphill. Both ways.

my brother got both the gunship and the at-te...years ago. the only difference is the gunship has different decals.
what sucks about them is the gunship's wings fall off easily, and the at-te can barely stand up under its own weight; the middle leg never stayed on. But that was the old model. The new version here seems different. It's taller and its legs are built differently-hopefully better.

Sweet. I think the best part is definitely the Twi'lek. Definitely.

@scarbrtj:
Oh, see, if you're going to get into all the myriad new parts that were first designed for use in the Star Wars line, I think the only theme that outstrips it is BIONICLE. Star Wars had at over 20 new parts in the first year alone, including the two halves of the basic lightsaber, three helmets, the Jedi hood, four cockpits, the X-Wing gun barrels, the inverted slope "bracket" used to mount TIE Fighter wings, the clip-on triangular sign plate used for the stabilizers on the speederbikes, battle droid head/legs, Sebulba, Jar-Jar's head, R2's body/leg, and two new hairs. It's not that they don't come out with new parts on a regular basis, just that they don't appear to have made many (or any?) for _this_ batch of sets.
As for the UCS Falcon, the webbing that wraps around the back of the engines is actually just a new color for rigging from the old Pirate ships. For Vader's TIE, I have to assume you mean the UCS version (it's the only one of five distinct models that actually uses a special piece for the backside of the cockpit), and it used the same piece with different paint deco that the UCS TIE Interceptor used, and which first appeared (unpainted) in '95 in an Aquanauts set. The back side of that same cockpit was first used in the very same Aquanauts set, and was again reused in the UCS TIE Interceptor. Now, if you're talking about the minifig versions, then yes, the '99 "vs. Y-Wing" cockpit face was a first-use piece.

@Jesus Diaz:
There are probably a few parts that are now being made available in new colors...but that doesn't really count. One bit that I'm really not sure about is the roof of the cab on the AT-TE. It has a bunch of parallel ridges that clearly aren't the 1x2 grille tile, and look to be spaced too close together to be the old 1x2 plate with the short ladder on one side. The Magnaguard Starfighter _will_ have a Magnaguard minifig (new legs/arms/head/cape, Exo-bot arms/hands)...but you appear to have the name mixed up with the V-19 Torrent. The Magnaguard Starfighter is the flat grey craft that looks vaguely similar to Greivous' starfighter (incidentally, while no pics have surfaced, there's a 2008 set list that suggests this will be released in UCS form this year!), and the V-19 is the tri-wing that looks sorta like an upside-down Tyderium.

@Kyang: Yeah, true, although the Hind doesn't have the big rollback door that this and the Huey have (it has windows instead on the sides).
