Leaked Motorola M990 GPS Phone is a Car Phone? Wha?
Posted by Jason Chen at 6:10 PM on February 7, 2008
Unwired View points out the weirdness in this Motorola M990 Smart Rider GSM phone. Yes, it's got an integrated GPS, EDGE and quad-band GSM, but its description makes it seem like it's tailored for 1993, not 2008.
...with stylish and full features set, it is targeted to a broad band of markets looking for exclusivity like business men, limousines and private cars looking for stylish communication and navigation solution...
So it's a...car phone? [UnwiredView]

Motorola, you are so ahead of the curve it blows my fucking mind. Tell me again why your mobile handset division is an absolute failure?

they are selling as in-car navigation with phone features, not a car phone.

I'm totally going to get the sweet faux leather case that has a shoulder strap and an external battery.
I can totally talk in the mall with it, and call all my friends.
It has the awesomeset headset with dual earphones and a mic that hangs down in my face!
"Sweet cans" never felt so good.

Don't feel so bad... My mom got rid of hers JUST 2 YEARS AGO.
She stepped into the 0t's.

Maybe calling it a "car phone" is a nicer way of saying "phone for jerks", because the only people who had car phones (or cell phones) back in the day usually were huge douchebags.
On the bright side, it might come with a free Members Only jacket....

It would look better then those ginormious ones they had in 1993. . . So this is just a step up and if its detachable from the car then it could be incase you need to continue the conversation in private. I like the idea but we have cell phones too. Its bigger than a cell so it would look really weird if it was detachable. At least you could use the car power instead of the battery's while you in the car.
^ Haha, you said feces.

For a limo, a car-phone wouldn't be a bad idea. Bigger than a cell phone, so it's easier to hold while you're making sweet deals, and unlimited power so the extras don't kill the battery. But that's for the passengers.
If it's for the driver, it should look 100% like a regular GPS (big screen, no buttons, etc) but with a speaker phone and Bluetooth.
I just wish Motorola would have crashed before all the "krzy phns" had come out. The Razr 2 looks like dog feces.

If you paint the silver accents red, you basically have something that can be proudly attached to Judge Dredd's hoverbike.

It's not really a car phone it's a phone for people who are in cars alot. That's at least what i think when i read the description. So for business men, limousine drivers and private car drivers, soooo... yeah it's for people who drive cars alot i guess (they just need to make a trucker and taxi cab version aka shock resistant and smoke resistant version).

This doesn't seem at all that unusual. Lots of cars already contain Onstar chipsets that function using mobile phone technology.
