GPS Navigator with Built-In Breathalyser
Posted by Addy Dugdale at 12:52 AM on February 22, 2008
Billed as the first in the world, NDrive's G400 is a GPS navigator with a breathalyser built into the side. I suppose this means that big drinkers will, finally, have an excuse to sing Show Me The Way To Go Home after a skinful. The fact that it costs 200€—about $320—and that, according to Kit, who lives in Portugal, they're given away for free with the country's motorway toll widget, means don't trust it further than you can park it. Video after the jump.

@mtopper: I read where they already have ignotion restrictions on cars, based on breathalyzer, but the only problem is the driver just has someone ELSE blow into the tester, thus rendering it useless. Pretty smart for a drunk....

there was an obscure store newstory last week about a guy who blew a .32 while at the courthouse for a drunk driving charge:

So they had better set the thing to be pretty high because some people can booze.

This technology should be required equipment as part of the starter on all vehicles. Driver fails = car wont start = lives saved.
I wonder if this might be a politically charged issue.........

It prob sends off a signal of your location as soon as you blow past the legal limit to police....

@mtopper: "identify the driver/blower and verify that s/he is actually the one driving AND blowing". This thread just went to hell.

Because the time you need GPS most is when you're good and pissed...

@Curves:
Maybe there can be an additional sensor built into the device that uses another bio metric testing device (DNA testing mouthpiece combined with fingerprint identifying starter button?????) to identify the driver/blower and verify that s/he is actually the one driving AND blowing. If ya know what I mean.

No one NEEDS an excuse to sing Show Me The Way To Go Home. It's my goddamn right as a drinker! Now I just need a GPS to help me find my car in the morning.

yeah. that would be a real hold back, because a drunk could get someone else to blow for them. and if the car still starts even if they're drunk; people might just wanna see how high they can get their blood alcohol level, then drive anyways. the base is there, but it needs a little fine tuning.

So if I'm drunk I'm not allowed to use the navigator? Now that's security at best : I will end up being drunk, lost and driving!
