MacBook Air 1.8Ghz SSD Gets Benchmarked

11:50AM Gizmodo US Edition | The MacBook Air’s US$1300 upgrade to a slightly faster processor and SSD, has just been benchmarked by a MacRumors reader at the only place they could get their hands on it, an Apple Store. By running Xbench on the 1.8GHz SSD model and compiling the results with the same test ran on the 1.6GHz model, the difference in speed is not too surprising. The obvious increase in the .2GHz processor bump is noticeable, but the biggest difference is with the SSD. More »

World of Warcraft Mana Energy Potion Will Probably Sell Incredibly Well

11:30AM Jason Chen | Taking into account that WoW has over 100.4 gazillion subscribers at last count, we surmise that a drink based on mana potions in the game should sell incredibly well. It’s hard to tell how this thing will taste without actually drinking and subsequently puking it up, but it’s supposed to give you 5-8 hours of uninterrupted “jitter-free energy”. More »

Notes: Second Phones

11:26AM Brian Lam | How many of you have second phones? When I’m in Tahoe, I generally carry a Nokia N95 which has buttons I can press through gloves, a good camera and video recorder, and solid battery life. This weekend, I think I’m going to use the 4GB iPhone I’ve kept 100% legit with the most recent firmware. I have to say, the jailbroken iPhone loaded with apps is a lot less stable than the virgin iPhone. More »

That’s because the price of flash memory is plummeting, with it dropping 75% in the last 5 months alone. In fact, 1GB chipsets are selling for as low as US$2.23, with 4GB chipsets going for as low as US$12.30. More »

Hanging Printer Saves Desk Space

8:30AM Jason Chen | Our current complaint with our printer is that it takes up too much space around the office, both in the horizontal and the vertical, that we need one individual shelf just to accommodate the thing. Enter the Hanging Printer. It’s a standard printer, yes, but hangs off the side of your desk in order to save on clutter and to keep printouts within reach. We don’t see any downside to this. Can a Lightsaber Cut Through Superman?

7:45AM Jason Chen | Can a gadget defeat a superhero? Here’s a question io9 posed: can a lightsaber cut through Superman? We put both our nerdy gadget knowledge and our nerdy superhero knowledge to the test and came up with reasons why it could and reasons why it couldn’t. More »

More Windows Mobile 6.1 Details Leaked in Screenshots

7:00AM Jason Chen | The Portugeuse forum Pocketpt.net has a few more exclusive shots of Windows Mobile 6.1 that you haven’t already seen before. The shots focus once again on the “Standard” version, which is the non-touchscreen variety, but show off the Deepfish-like browsing that lets you zoom and scroll around on a page. There’s also the ability to check how much memory an app takes, or remove an app entirely from the “Managed Programs” section. Check out more shots at Pocketpt. [Pocketpt via Electronista] More »

BlingNation Blinger Handheld ATM Confuses Us

6:15AM Jason Chen | At first glance we thought this BlingNation Blinger was a handheld ATM device that would let you purchase stuff directly from a salesperson (like in Apple stores), but on closer examination it’s actually quite weirder. More »

iPod classic Firmware Update May Damage Headphones

5:32AM Benny Goldman | Some iPod classic owners who installed the recently released 1.1 firmware are reporting that their iPods are sending electrical pulses through the headphone jack and docking port, even when the units are turned off. The pulses, estimated to be 500mv worth of DC, may be enough to damage equipment that is plugged in. More »
