Steampunk LEGO TIE Fighter vs X-Wing Shows Fascinating Vision
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 9:36 PM on January 10, 2008
This TIE Fighter, and the X-Wing after the jump, is what happens when you put together Star Wars, LEGO and steampunk in the title of a contest. That and a collective geekgasm. Truth is, as fun as the official Star Wars LEGO models are, home-made models like this steampunk TIE Fighter have a charm that the former can't achieve. The most amazing thing, however, is the source of inspiration for some of these:
The fascinating illustrations above, some of them extremely good, come from a thread titled "Star Wars: Steampunk" at the CGSociety forums. They were part of the inspiration for models like this X-Wing, which is one of the entries of the Steam-Wars contest being held at From Bricks to Bothan forums, a place dedicated to LEGO Star Wars enthusiasts.
But as nice the Alliance star fighter is, I think the reconstruction of the TIE Fighter definitely beats it in terms of design and sheer steampunking:
Although I'm sure some of you will disagree. So,

I like 'em both but the T.I.E. breaks the tie.
Just beautiful.
Now Jesus, about that update on the 'Falcon?
C'mon man, at least give us some "in progress" shots huh?

The Falcon is coming. I have to halt it for the holidays and grave personal circumstances. But I promise, I'm putting everything I have into this video.

I love steam-punk! The concept art and the Lego is amazing. Someone fund this! I want Steam Wars.

Ditto, I would love to see a version of the falcon. It's surprising there isn't one.

R2 does NOT have tits: it's just very cold in the vacuum of space.

Amazing design, would be cool if there was a "kit" to make our own, anyone listening over there on Legoland?
I mean I rather not re-invent the steamwheel :P

@Kaiser-Machead: Well now I'm wondering if I should even be following your comments anymore.
The LEGO models rule; the illustrations rule the world.

I can't say I'm lovin' the Steampunk Star Wars. My God, I've become everything I've ever hated! *weeps*

what's up with all the steampunk??
who the hell in the world has time to think this much into redesigning pretty much everything to be steampunk'd?
sure somethings looks awesome, but some times it's too much
there hasn't been a week in a while that you guys hasn't posted a steampunk related topic =D
just saying...

WTF.. no pod racers or jawa transport ships... I wanted to see some sick detailed steampunk guns and lightsaber.. The lightsaber could generate some kind of steam rod (yes I just typed that) that could cut through anything.. yes anything.

Shit yeah! Pod racers would be cool.
But my question is, why hasn't anyone done an anime or at least a comic for this? I'd think with Lucas' affinity for early 20th century and Nazi Germany, this'd be a done deal.
