Spykee the Skype Robot Gets Three Friends With iPod Dock Crotches
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 12:06 PM on January 5, 2008
Spykee, the built-it-yourself Skype robot, just got three different models that you can build him into—one of which is a her. We've got the first images of the Spykee Cell, Spykee Vox and Spykee Miss, all of which have a video camera, MP3 player, VoIP phone, microphone, louspeaker, motors, and the ability to shove an iPod into its crotch. The best thing about this guy is that you can control him from anywhere in the internet. Well, maybe that'd be the second best thing—the first best is still the fact that he has an iPod where his junk should be. Get yours from Erector. [Erector]

Is that an iPod Touch that looks likes an iPhone or an iPhone that looks like an iPod Touch?

So it's got it's junk visible, and it comes from Erector... Is there really a point from assembling a joke from this? It comes premade already.

Get used to it folks. When the robots rise up, it'll be us where the iPhone is.

What, no mention by Gizmodo that retailers took orders for Spykee back in September (if not earlier), and the expected shipping date started at mid-October, then went to December, then to January, and now (supposedly) to March?

@liquidsoapdispenser: Yeah - three new models when the first one hasn't even shipped yet?
And what the hell is putting an ipod in a Spykee supposed to do anyway? It makes no sense at all to me. The original Spykee can was supposed to be able to play music over wifi anyway - a pointless feature that eliminates the need for an ipod on board. It's almost like the PR department is controlling the product development; "if we put an ipod dock in it, gadget sites are sure to blog the hell out of it. Who cares that we don't actually have a product."

@weatherman: Damn straight. Gizmodo, don't be pawns to this marketing BS, how about a real investigative article on this robot that keeps getting promoted (by Gizmodo and others) as a product that a consumer could actually buy, but as far as I am concerned, is pure vapor?
