Great laptop, just got the TZ28 (48gb ssd) mid December 07. Last night I noticed a dead pixel near the top left corner while displaying a dark screen during boot up, seems to be a cluster of 4 pixels. Still waiting for a response from Sony. Rather disappointed that buying their flagship TZ with slightly rediculous price premium has yielded such a problem. I never thought it could have happened to a Sony product let alone their premium business model.
Unsurprisingly the battery life falls short of their claim even with the most tight-fisted of power settings enabled. Some reviewers said the laptop was completely silent, but the fan is still clearly audible. The matte finish of the keys, touchpad and palm rest are already showing signs of wear and tear. It is sometimes hard to use the touchpad side scroll without looking as the edges of the pad are only slightly raised and feel exactly like the surrounding palm rest. Careful use of generously included polishing cloth (the only included accessory) still scratches the piano finish keyboard area. Inclusion of a printed manual would have been nice, rather than a PDF which I stumbled upon having no indication there was one in the first place. Last point is that anything that is not crap-ware is pretty much trial-ware, which includes a 60day version of Office which I wasnt expecting given its price. Kind of feels like I bought a BMW M3 only to discover the engine, seats and steering wheel aren’t included.
Update: Screen was replaced within a week FOC.
