LEGO Town Plan 50th Anniversary Set Includes Three Golden Bricks
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 7:25 AM on January 29, 2008
As we told you early this morning in our graphic timeline, today the amazing LEGO brick has turned 50 and the company is commemorating it with the Town Plan, a US$149.99 special edition of the classic set, with a 1950s gas station, town hall and gas station. And on top of that, three unique 2 x 2 golden bricks. See if you can identify the young Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen in the original Town Plan box shot. [LEGO]

Count me in for this one... I still have the sets I put together as a child... and they are still assembled. However lately, I've gotten into the model team ones (i.e. statue of liberty, semi truck.. etc..)

My GI-Joes always killed all my Lego guys and destroyed all my Lego buildings so I just lost interest.

Is this what the original lego sets looked like (obviously w/o the people)? They don't look dated at all!

I saw this in the lego store in downtown disney yesterday but, never noticed the gold bricks. I only popped in there to replace my well worn chewbacca lego keychain:

Towards the 'end' of my lego period as a child, I would build things out of my lego collection to support my other hobbies. For instance, I built a kickass gameboy cart and accessories holder, and a NES cartridge holder that held about 11 games.
The best part was you could have all your other lego people crawling all over them going about their business.
My GF and I recently got a couple of starwars lego sets, just the mini droid army pack and clone wars storm trooper pack. Maybe we could have intergalactic warfare in downtown legoville... Muahahaha!

I happen to know that Jesus and Brian are going to give us something special with the 'Falcon, but that's just because I read around.
I'm totally pulling out the box and building something cool tonight after dinner to honor this historic anniversary.
All the best, Lego!
May you always have enough pieces, and in the right color!

With KKK for initials, I don't know if he's the right poster boy (man) for LEGO.

I must have this set.
Lately, I've been wanting to get back into LEGO, and I've been sort of torn between focusing on the City or Castle themes (or, for a Double Nerd Score, the Harry Potter sets). But I think this set might have just made up my mind. But still...$150...what I would give to NOT be a broke college student right now. :-(

@Gizmog:
Credit cards my friend. They call to you. So easy to get, so hard to quit. Mwah ha ha.
Speaking of... time to run to Toys R Us or WalMart after work and grab me a Lego set to commemorate this event.
If crap like this keeps up I'll never pay off my credit cards! But it sure is fun though. :P

Anybody else notice the gender ratio in that town? Looks like only one of those LEGO guys is gettin' lucky.
