@DeadWriter: Horrible analogy. Sports cars sacrifice comfort amenities for performance. The MBA, so far as I can tell, sacrifices performance for a paltry 1 lb difference in size. It's basically the culmination of what my main criticism has been of Apple all along--that they are more concerned with aesthetics than performance. If that's your thing, more power to you, but I'll continue to base my purchases on performance, not whether my computer looks like something I'd like to have sex with.

I find it funny that there is such a negative reaction to this computer. There are sports cars as ill equipped that are ridiculously expensive that also require that the battery be changed by a "technician".

I rarely see people pounding on those that buy super high-end sports cars and motorcycles.

That all said, I can't see this being a musicians choice. Good audio protocols would require one to use the most robust chain for the scratch, clip, and render drives. With one USB port, I can't help but think that running an external audio soundcard/break out box, and a few drives would cause problems. I know FW can handle it, but I have had USB drives lag under constant use.

Laptops like this one are the way things will be, but I think that Apple may have jumped ahead of the paradigm just a little too soon.

I for one don't give a rats asss if he has one, but I do think that the MBA is kinda cool, if they lowered the price from 3,000 to i don't know 1500 I could see a much larger market for them, and a much larger market for usb hubs. I also wish that that remote disk app was availible on other macbooks, I would love to be able to have two cd's in at the same time

Of course nobody cares that whatsisface has one. The point is, they saw one, and that's fun. Pre-release anything is fun.

But I guess any thread where you guys can stand up and pooh pooh something so everyone can see how much cooler you are than everyone else is just too difficult to pass up.

I find the price of the Macbook Air very unreasonable. I'm not going to pay an arm and a leg for a half ass computer. it's very thin, and it's very basic. ONLY ONE USB PORT? Are you kidding me? My desktop has double the hardrive, more usb ports, and more power and it cost significantly less. I dont see how there can be a very large market for the Air just because it's "Green"

I guess you've never been to Bridgeport, CT. Believe it or not, not ever town in Connecticut is filled with upper-class, sweater-wearing, country club WASPs. I almost went to school in Bridgeport but decided not to after visiting and finding it rather depressing (no offense to those who live there). Mayer may not be a true blues musician, but geographic location has little to do with it. I argue that Bridgeport provides an environment as conducive to the blues as any other "proper" blues town or city.

Most people haven't needed above a 1Ghz processor since they came out. I bounce between two Macs and of course am spoiled as Firefox starts up faster in one vs. the other. So i feel ya.

I get the performance issue, but PC users are stuck on the function follows form argument.

Sure the iPod doesn't have a radio tuner, a can opener or a prophylactic(WOW players-you might as well own an iPod cause you definitely don't need a condom), but the 22 million people that bought iPods last quarter don't seem to care. Why? All they want to do is listen to music and watch the Office. Nobody wants to listen to shitty terrestrial radio.

I propose we turn these sad faces and angry feelings toward subjects that are worth it. You know the dwindling freedoms we have and all that. Either way the MBA is still going to exist and it just seems a waste to whine.
