iPhone's Telescopic Zoom Lens Comes With a Case
Posted by Jason Chen at 5:50 AM on January 25, 2008
Now that manufacturers are creating add-on lenses for mobile phone cameras—similar to the one we saw at CES—they need to step up their game to attract your attention. This iPhone telescopic lens from Brando does just that, adding a nifty protective case to go along with the lens. The good news is that it does seem to zoom in a crapload (see photo after jump), but unless that lens unscrews from the body, there's no way you can call the iPhone "pocketable". [Brando]

They make these for many types of phones including the Moto Razr that rides in way more pockets than the iFone could hope for.
How bout knocking of the cult of apple mantara Giz and offering equal time?

if I hold it by the zoom and spin it around will it make the clackety noise like those new years party accessories?

Are they going to develop an iPhone tripod to prevent motion blur? If it's not in broad daylight, the iphone opts for ludicrously long exposure times in low light - basically the same conditions as being at maximum zoom.

If that's more than $100 its not worth it. At that point you might as well save a bit more for a real camera that can do that instead of a weird add-on for a camera on a device that's only meant to take pictures of your drunk friend who fell on the floor because they drunk 9 screwdrivers and a rum and coke.

Well, was intrigued and bought one just yesterday. :-)
I go to a lot of concerts and this might come in handy. The lens does detach from the casing. We'll see how well it works when it arrives.

OK, who in the hell is going to buy this?
Seriously, give me the name of one person who wants a major zoom lens for a 2.0 megapixel half-ass phone camera.

Hey,Gizmodo still does posts about Gadgets! This fits the blog nicely, and for the price, if I had an iPhone I'd try it.

That is retarded!
Take a camera with such a small lense that it needs to be on the surface of the sun to get a clear shot and then magnify it, therefore needing even MORE light.

It looks like the telescope is removable, without having to remove the entire case. If you look at the pics on the seller's site, it looks like it slides on and off as needed. Not a bad deal for $19!

If you've played RE4, you will remember this picture. It's from the canyon section of the village level. I think you can buy this scope from the purple guy behind the building in the picture on the right.
