iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak is Here!
The iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak is here, courtesy of Nate True and the iPhone Dev team. It's a Windows-only download right now, but Nate tells us that they've got a Mac version coming soon and it "should be quick".
Fot the Windows version, you need to download an install iBrickr (instructions are on Nate's site), which will guide you through downloading and installing the firmware. The whole thing will take about 15-30 minutes, based on estimates.

Some feeback from the latest 1.1.3 Jailbreak process by Nate True's iBrickr jailbreak 1.1.3 process for my iPod Touch.
Home screen is bare with default Apple apps plus the Installer.
Installer works, even list all the previous packages I've installed under 1.1.2. But these are not showing up in the home screen and pagination is lost since there is not enough apps installed.
Can install other apps via installer though. Can't see new Mail, Maps, Stocks, Weather.. apps.
"About...." does indicate that it has upgraded to 1.1.3.
All music and videos are still there and accessible as normal.
Home screen customisation is not working... i.e. no wiggly icons.
May be not for iPod Touch right now...

Yeah, totally didn't work on the ipod touch. Went through the steps and ended up just getting the ipod touch to revert to recovery mode.

@JEKYOO_STYLE, who said, "This is pretty useless unless you can actually upgrade your 1.1.1/1.1.2 unlocked to 1.1.3 and still be unlocked."
That's exactly what the web page states. Did you read it? "This jailbreak, like the 1.1.2 jailbreak, comes as an upgrade. This means you need to have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone already, before you can begin."

@jaggedtoaster: lol your an idiot unless Apple is a country, then jaibreaking is legal in yours. lmao why would you say something so stupid?? also why would you update? besides moving apps easily there is nothing new worth having, I would much rather have nes, gba, psx, snes, simcity(soon), apallo, iphysics etc. then the piece of ***** 1.1.3. Plus now your ipod looks stupid , summer board is an amazing app! I could go on.....

@UseMacNotCrack: Even when I do check stocks, I don't use the built in app. It's not as current as some other sites.
As for the 3rd party apps, I don't feel anybody has anything available that I absolutely need on my phone today or ever for that matter.
I used to have my phone hacked, but I restored it before the 2nd firmware upgrade. I had the NES emulator (pretty useless) and some other random software, but nothing actually made the phone any better. I don't see the draw other than the fact that people that know nothing about "hacking" are walking around talking about how they hacked their iPhone.
Keep living on the edge folks. I'm pretty content right now.

@sorensilk: if having those apps makes it more useful to you, then more power to you man. my comment was more in reference to the kids (ppeetteeyy more than that other kid) that started trying to prove "dolphni" and the other 1.1.3 users they were wrong. like that other user(@Bittermormon:) said:"to each his own". i have an unlocked iphone with at&t because i travel to other countries often. if i could get an unlocked iphone with whatever software apple releases i'd probably have that. i dont have use for any of the apps you mentioned. so that makes us "idiots" like "ppeetteeyy" said? just because some people arent like him and have no need for useless "game" apps or "pimping" out their home-screens?

I already updated to 1.1.3 so no go for me. Not that I really care, I had a jailbroken iPhone for months until 1.1.3 and after the initial fun factor of using 3rd party apps I realized I never used any of them - if nothing else it made the iPhone unstable and annoying. I'm happily waiting for official SDK apps that will be optimized/tested for the iPhone and NOT run as root!

Just did this to my 1.1.2 iphone. I have an ATT sim, but it's on a corporate plan. I guess I could switch it now, but before that wasn't an option. It all worked just fine, and I have no complaints, other than the location must need a new baseband firmware for the radio. I can't do that one feature. I think the procedure is to upgrade to 1.1.3 officially, downgrade and jailbreak, and then follow this jailbreak method. Too much trouble for me to go through right this minute, maybe this weekend.

@izim1: As an adult, I very much enjoy using my hacked iPhone for it's RSS Reader, e-book reader, voice recorder, and VNC. All very useful, and not exactly kids toys.
But if you don't want a hacked iPhone, don't hack it. Mine's more useful to me hacked and it hasn't caused any problems so I have no reason not to.

@izim1: (fiirst I would just like to point out that I am talking about and ipt, not iphone)There are other benefits besides games, but my main point was that it was pointless to update.... For example there is a music app coming out that is much better than the one apple provides, that is a piratical reason to jailbreak.. plus who doesn't like games? the only job I have is getting paid to jailbreak ipods and sell stuff on ebay via drop shipping(which is a lot more than I would make with a real job)

he meant to say "i agree with the guys that say there isnt a 3rd party app that can make the phone any better TO AN ADULT..." of course if your some idiot teenager and only wanna be "cool" to your other teenage friends (as it is painfully obvious that you are) by showing off how you "hack" your phone with useless apps, then yeah.. all these JB are for you. honestly, boy? "nes"? "snes" "simcity" WTF!? why would you even say something so stupid? those apps are useless to adults. do you really spend time playing "super mario bros" on your damn phone? get a job, kid. @s3p5: "terminal" no one really uses that. "wifi tethering" c'mon dude. "IM"? really, is that necessary? you have a phone, why not have a REAL conversation?....
Jailbreaks are really only usefull if you can sim-unlock the phones. any other crap app (mostly games) is completely useless to the average adult.

@s3p5: come off of it, dude... "I use terminal for network diagnostics and system monitoring while I'm mobile." it's almost as if im talking to my 12 yr old neighbor who "follows the stock market". you do realize just saying that makes you look like a complete tool, right? but why stop there:"I use WiFi tethering to respond to your uneducated comments on a full size keyboard while in class." use a full-size keyboard on your 3 inch phone.. "And I use IM for business communication when a phone call is too disruptive."? what "business" communicates through "text"? selling "speed" and "weed" while in class? look kid. like i said before. to the average adult. those apps are useless. if they make "your" life easier, then, good for you. but i know i dont need any of those things (much less an nes emulator). like i said before: my iphone is fully jailbroken and unlocked. i could add those things if i cared to do so. i dont. so....... why try to convince people that dont need or use any of those things, that it makes THEIR phones better to have them on there?

@exterminat25: I think I may have figured out what the problem is. I'm running it on Vista, and when it first copied the firmware to the phone, it took less than a second. I just ran the process again, but first I changed it to run in Windows XP compatability mode, and now it's taking a little while to copy the file over. I'm betting it didn't actually copy over the first time, which explains why the upgrader didn't do anything. It's still copying over right now, and then I'll let you know if it works! If so, then compatability mode was the answer.

@exterminat25: If it's not already too late, I'd recommend uninstalling all your third-party apps BEFORE you do the update. I just did the update, and my springboard, customize, and extended settings apps all can not be uninstalled (give errors), and I no longer have even the standard settings button to change anything. Thsi may not affect you if you don't have those apps, but I'm restoring to the normal 1.1.3 right now, since I think my phone is filled with corrupt apps right now, and I don't feel like going through the whole process again.

do not do this update. SMS app no longer works properly, there's no locate on google maps, there's no summerboard, and there's no openssh or filesystem write-access. if you moved your apps with bosstool, you can't access or reinstall most of them, so you're screwed.

@exterminat25: Yep, it just finished! In the folder, right-click on the ibrickr.exe file, and click "Properties". Then click on the "Compatability" tab and check the box "Run this program in compatability mode for" and select "Windows XP SP2". Hit ok, and start the process from the beginning. It should take a while to copy the files over this time, before you get the message "iBrickr has finished it's part". Then continue and finish up. You'll have 1.1.3. Note that all your third-party apps will be gone, and you have to uninstall them and reinstall them. And as mentioned previously, the "Locate" feature in Google Maps won't work with this baseband. Good luck!

I just have one thing to say to people saying there's nothing important gained by jailbreaking: TODO-LISTS.
Every freakin' cell phone under the sun, smart phone or not, has these things. The cheapass phone that the cell companies give away with plans have them, and yet the iPhone doesn't. They're a major part of the way I get my adult things done, and it's utterly unacceptable that Apple isn't supporting them.
Jailbreaking allows me to go back to using my phone to keep my workout checklist, my shopping list, and keep track all of the other niggling little details that an adult needs to get done.

@izim1: Actually my friend who is a 3rd level network ops for Hawaiian Telcom loves the terminal and has even saved his neck a few times when he forgot his blackberry at work. As for the comment about WiFi tethering, you proved his point with that on. WiFi tethering isn't something you use to access your phone using a keyboard, its simply a way to turn your phone into a modem so that way if your on a computer with out access to the internet or you don't wish to use the secured network at your work or school you can access it using your phone. Also on the comment about IM, I work for a software development company and IM is our prefered method of communication. Our CEO has made everyone install ICQ just for that reason. Its a not intrusive way to communicate especially when you need a quick on-line answer to a question. Plus there are a bunch of other apps I find useful as a grown-up such as the Netflix Que Managment, Flickr Uploader, Dictionary, and the mathmatical conversion software. And as the development community continues to grow I'm sure you'll run acrossed several hand applications you didn't know you needed until you have them.
