I went to both Sony Showroom in Chatswood and Apple reseller in Chatswood.

Had a looked at both machines and while the TZ is currently on sale (being replaced by a newer model that looks the same but has a faster CPU and bigger HDD). Therefore, the price of both machines are very similar.

The air is thinner by around 1cm and is wider by a lot.

So, if you are after a small, easy to carry around laptop with long battery life (Air = 5hrs, Vaio TZ=11hrs). The Vaio TZ is the way to go.

However, if you want a light but larger LCD screen, Apple fits the profile.

To me, the screen size is not the only denorminator. I liked the Vaio TZ's extra features, like 2 USB, VGA out, built-in DVD burner, firewire and builtin card reader.

btw, Sony Vaio TZ weights 1.2kg where as Macbook Air weights 1.3kg.

It is hard to imagine the Vaio TZ has all the extra features while still lighter than the Air.
