HD DVD Really Dead Now: Paramount Following Warner to Blu-ray-Only Party

3:10PM January 8, 2008 | Matt Buchanan

ParamountGate.JPGFinancial Times is reporting that Paramount has a clause in its HD DVD exclusivity contract allowing them to bail from the sinking HD DVD ship if Warner defected to Blu-ray, and they are “poised” to do so. Warner’s switch already put 70 percent of Hollywood’s output on Blu-ray—Paramount rolling Blu-ray too would promptly and undoubtfully close the books on HD DVD’s future in Hollywood. It’s a shame.
Only cause i have a HD-DVD Player for the 360, now will have to get a Blu-Ray Player…

I preferred Blu-Ray to win (because of my PS3) but really just wanted the war to be over before I invested too heavily in one format.

    Awesome.

It’s a shame that one format has to die so quickly. I don’t really mind because I have both a HD-DVD add-on for the 360 and a PS3, but I still feel that HD-DVD has a lot of things going for it. Also with two formats, both sides will be trying to out do each other and we would possibly see more new features from both camps.

I guess it was inevitable that Blu-Ray would win, I was just hoping it wouldn’t happen this early. At least now consumers won’t be so confused and we will be able to get all movies on one HD Format.

Seriously, it’s all good for the industry.

Likewise, am really considering getting a PS3 now – any good games you can recommend?
