Hands-on With FastMac's iV iPhone Battery Pack
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 8:54 AM on January 16, 2008
The Gadget: iV iPhone case and battery, which adds 4x as much battery time to the iPhone while not adding too much more bulk.
The Verdict: The rubberised plastic feels nice, the LED flash/flashlight on the back is good for finding your keys or taking low-light pictures, and it clips neatly onto your belt if you're one of those belt dudes. There's also a USB port on the back for charging another device while your iPhone is being charged/docked. $US79. [Fastmac]

Awesome- wonder if they will make one for the Mac Error too? Would make sense to bulk up the ultra thin notebook with a aftermarket battery pack.

While the flash is nice, why not just get a pocketable USB charger and not make your iPhone look gross and bulky?

How big can you stand your phone to be? Didn't we get away from the brick sized phone 10 years ago?

And all those who bitched about the iPhone not having a removable battery were silenced.
Lugging this thing around is about the same are lugging a 2nd battery around.

Great.
Stick your iPhone in this and walk around looking like a stock clerk at Home Depot.
... and they call HTC devices "bricks"... LMAO

@Townie: That's like buying a air and strapping on a dvi dongle, usb hub, usb mic, usb to firewire, a extra battery, external hard drive, usb to ethernet jack and some other useful items I'm forgetting.

You know what? This reminds me of the time I welded a 55 gallon drum to the back of my Murcielago to hold extra gas and added some big Dick Cepek off-road lights to the roof.
Oh wait... I never did that BECAUSE I'M NOT A FREAKIN' SMACKTARD.

Like the ipods you have to add something to make it a usable product negating to point of having the product thin. Why don't they just a .01 to the product and triple the battery life. I think people would be happier.

Doesn't add much bulk? Really? You're really going to try playing that off?
It looks like Zack Morris' iPhone.

Am I the only one who looks at this and sees a portable dock? Just clip it somewhere (yeah, probably on the belt, but on a pack/bag strap could work too) and undock the phone as needed. I think it has real possibilities.

Why? How can such product be launched? It's ugly, bulky and the clip-on loses all the iPhone sleekness. If you need LED light, get a small LED keychain or something. My iPhone never dies mid-day; by the end of the day, the battery is not even half. I just charge my iPhone while I sleep.

the best thing about it is that it doesn't look completely stupid at all. barely adds any bulk either.

This seems like a great solution if you need to use your iPhone for a long time and aren't able to charge it. And just because you have this thing doesn't mean you have to ugly-up your iPhone all the time with it. But when you need it, it could be invaluable.

Ugh, I need to get rid of my Audiovox XV6700 and get an iPhone. Even with WM6 running it's just not enough to want to keep it around. Although the brick battery pack attached to it in the photo does make me want it a little less.
