Guy Who Uses Stun Gun on Son to Toughen Him Up Jailed, Unsurprisingly
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 12:40 AM on January 31, 2008
The father of an 18-month-old child is off to jail for four years after being found guilty of using a stun gun on the boy. His reason for using the 100,000-volt Dragonfire, which resulted in muscle damage to the kid's heart, was because he wanted his son to be "the toughest cage fighter ever." Yeah, the toughest heart-damaged, cage-fighting 18-month-old ever.
According to the Deputy DA in Portland, Ryan Wittman had made comments to witnesses saying he wanted his child "to be tough." When first questioned, the dad's genius response was to say that the two of them had been "playing peekaboo." Hmm, that'll be the special version of kilovolt peekaboo we've never heard of, then.
The 100,000-volt weapon Wittman used is, apparently, more powerful than police tasers. Wittman's excuse for the incidents? Arguments with his wife. It took just 20 minutes for the court to decide that Wittman should be sent down for four years. [CNN]

Damaged his son's heart? Seems that 4 years is about 6-16 years too short, IMHO.

What a douchebag. What an asshole. He just wrecked a kid's life.
Let's hope the kid turns more mentally stable than this asshole. Just to make sure he doesn't make more children though, castrate the dad with rusty knives.

They should tazer his balls every hour on the hour for the duration of 15 minutes while he's in jail the next 4 years. I hope he gets anal penetrated by all the guys on his cellblock.
Man, an 18 month old that's a little baby what a jerk.

Last time I checked they don't allow tasers in cage fighting matches...althought that would add a bit more excitement... that and snapping towels on each others butts...

@chaboud: Because
a) they have more stringent requirements for them using tasers and there's hell to pay if they abuse them (theoretically)
b) they don't tase 18 month olds
c) they use a lower voltage
Not to say that there aren't cops with access to tasers who are rocking the same mental capacity as this sperm donor, but there you have it.

He was an ordinary toddler, from an ordinary town. But his dreams would take him further than any cage fighter. ever.
"I'm not like you Dad! I'm not gonna spend my days coloring and hanging out in the sandbox, and then working 9 to 5 for the man. I'm gonna be somebody. I'm gonna be a cage fighter!"
"But you are only 18 months old."

There is no penalty that could EVER feel like justice here. Twenty years in prison? Not enough for this waste of flesh. Being penetrated so deeply HIS heart muscles are damaged? Nah, just not bad enough. I hope that this poor baby has the opportunity to be placed in a home that loves him and has the resources to heal all of his wounds. Daily, I just shake my head.

This guy is an idiot. Everyone know you don't start this kind of pain desensitization conditioning until four years old at the earliest. I mean come on, at 18 months he should have been concentrating on developing the child's killer instinct by making him fight for his food. It's just common sense.

I'm plan on raising tough chil'drins as well, but I'm gonna go with the quality time, spiritual/intellectual pursuits with outdoor activities and weight lifting combo route (the girls too...). There's just something about abusing a child and then turning him into an efficient fighting/killing machine that strikes me as, well...idiotic and ultimately *self* destructive (not to mention neddlessly cruel)...just when I'm getting decrepit he'll be reaching his prime...asinine I tell you...
As far as tazers and cops...the majority of the time a taser shot is much less destructive to an adult than a billy club or nightstick upside the head, or a few rounds of 9mm, .40, .357, or .45ACP to the chest or head would be. It also allows the cops to maintain about a 3 - 10 foot distance from a potentially dangerous individual, which is safer than getting within arms reach of a possibly armed and/or deranged assailant. Sure there's a potential for abuse or over-use, but I think it's nice that there's one more hedge for cops before they have to resort to lethal force.

If you watch the video, the kid supposedly recovered from the heart damage & leg burns it caused, so now he just needs to get over the psychological damage of knowing your dad thought it was a good idea to hit you with 100,000 volts (twice actually) and then went to prison.
Although I think the toughening up/cage fighter story is just bs. He probably made it as some sort of joke to a friend or something to try and downplay what a total douchebag he is. According to the video, he tased the kid after getting into a fight with the mom. That makes it even worse, since he used an 18 month old to vent on.
Add me to the crowd who thinks 4 years isn't any where near long enough.
