From Rumorware to Bandwagonware: Here Come the MacBook Air Accessories
Posted by Wilson Rothman at 4:00 AM on January 19, 2008
It starts with a case: This week, after one company preemptively announced a sexy MacBook Air sleeve before the Jobsnote, others have followed suit. Not only is there a real Manila folder case in the works, but others, from WaterField to Belkin, are launching their own lineups. Here are Belkin's first hasty MBA-friendly bags. (They're pretty, but almost too pretty. Is Belkin saying that the MacBook Air is for girls?) Like I said, the Bandwagonware starts with cases—easiest to fudge—but soon we think we'll see companies like Belkin, Targus, Kensington, DLO and Griffin popping other goodies, from neon rubber protective skins to any number of competitively priced drives and dongles, just to fit in. If you have a Zune you dont have much election, Remeber Zune is not iPod so nobody uses it, and therefore nobody makes anything for Zune.. almost... :p

i hope this doesnt launch a trend where companies only develop product specific accessories. i suppose it makes sense from a marketing standpoint. why sell a generic multi platform product when you can sell a custom product for everything at a higher price?
@Captain Angry: it is pricey, but its one of the best fm tuners ive used.

My apartment was designed to compliment the MacBook Air. It's small, smaller than any other apartment that previously accommodated Apple laptops. It only has 45 watts of power; it has not DVD or CD drive, and no Ethernet ports. The MacBook Air is just a hair thicker than the walls.

what is the deal with the manila folder? I can fit my dell 700m in a manila folder, and that thing is almost 3 years old.

It annoys the crap out of me that the only product-specific laptop accessories I see in the store are for Macbooks. I think it's because Apple's are considered "trendy" and let's face it, the high-end Powerbook (PBG4/MacbookPro) hasn't seen a facelift in over four years.

Waterfield Designs (sfbags.com) actually has something like 50 sizes, so not just one for the Macbook Air (which I ordered this weekend and is already on its way), but also for PC laptops. I've used their sleeves on every laptop I've owned in the last five years. Great stuff and really amazing customer service.
