To the guys who say 1080I is not good enough, do you jokers realise that no TV supplier or station transmit in 1080P. The bandwidth for doing so is just simply to high and the cost prohibative

@ Jake and Lex - 1080i not good enough for you guys? I suggest you go check out the Gizmodo articles on the difference between Interlaced and Progressive scanning, or Wiki it or something - to complain about 1080i over the 480i/p that we all are used to is nothing short of stupidity. Its like complaining about the colour of the car when you're offered a sports car over your Camrey.

While 1080p is destined to become the standard def for TV, it is very good and its not an 'Oz only' issue either. True, there is a difference between 1080i and 1080p, but its still HD, its still clear as crystal and its still a shite load better than standard def or analogue tv.

Cost however - well thats a different story. I see many $ signs popping up in Fox advertising real soon.

And after 6 months can we look forward to plenty of HD (or should that be HHD – Half High Definition) repeats advertised as ‘new programming’ like we get now on the SD (Significantly Distorted) service?

Will the new FoxtelHD+ retransmit and be able to record FTA HD channels , or will you need a seperate box, pvr for that ?

Just heard back from Foxtel – You won’t be able to transfer content from your old iQ to the new one… something about copyright agreements or evil, not sure which. So make sure you’ve watched everything on your current box before you upgrade.

Actually details aren’t that sketchy – I’ll be following up with a detailed post on the channels today, but in the meantime the BBC HD is full of BBC HD content, from drama to documentaries to special events. It’s actually an Australian arm of the BBC, managed by the BBC itself and broadcast through Foxtel.

I think it's definitely a step in the right direction. Their next step should hopefully be to make a push for HD versions of some of the more popular channels, like Comedy, Fox8 & Arena.

Once that happens, I'm in.

god i hate foxtel.

$55 per month for 12 months so i can watch 7 months of afl, now watered down with the dissolution of foxfooty.

i was actually looking fwd to afl in HD, but now the bastards are going to get more money out of me by making me get an IQ and hard drive, 2 more things i dont need.

Bugger HD, how about some SD without compression artifacts? On any screen above 51cm, you may as well be watching youtube. Watching hippos rut on NG-HD will be a waste of time if there are artifacts.
