First Case Announced for MacBook Air Creates New Rumorware Category
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 10:30 PM on January 15, 2008
Behold the new Aria, the only worthy case for the new, magical and still-completely-inexistent MacBook Air. It looks absolutely amazing. Lickable. Pantsable. Apparently it's made of italian leather and aluminium by Orbino. Or probably, just Italian pixels and cappuccino vapour:
We don't know if Orbino has a special relationship with Apple that has got them early access to the MacBook Air's physical specs. Perhaps they sold their souls to the Devil to get them. Or to Steve Jobs, if you are one of those who think they are not the same person. Or perhaps this is just a smart publicity stunt, which is precisely what we think it may be.
The only thing we know for sure is that this was hidden inside their web site, not in the open. Could this be yet-one-more "evidence" confirming the rumoured MacBook Air? Or just a clever way to get everyone's attention for five minutes today? Well, for sure, they achieved that last one.

So Apple spend R&D cash large to bring the dinkiest notebook known to man, and then we wrap it in a larger metal case. Oh the ironing.

@diarmy: I think it's just marketing, as I say in the article, but why would it have an Apple logo if it's a third party?

I remember people calling rumor when photos were leaked of the new nano, or the new keyboads, etc. I'm going to have to say this pic is bullshit photoshop to try and get exposure, but I think the macbook air is real.

personally I think this is a huge case of "fan" and "flames". to be honest, if Apple were introducing a shiny new MacBook Air, they'd not be telling small design studios in Italy about it before it came out on sale.
I know most of these product mock-ups are photoshopped (even apple is guilty of that) but somehow, this one doesn't seem to cut the mustard. If it had proper Apple insignia, I'd say something. It looks fugly anyway!

come on guys! Its not even a photo! It's a few drawn colored rectangles inside of each other, with "Orbino Italy" written on it. Seems like people will fall head over heals for anything they think was designed by Italians these days. Greasy Bastards.

Is it ironic that I burnt my hand on an iron while laughing at that? Anyways, I wonder how much work Apple does to throw people of course of its actual new products. You know all Jobs needs is a black mask and he becomes a Ninja.

i hope it isn't true, Macbook Air is an awful name.
Either way, the case is overlapping its own reflection…

Inexistent? Really? Thats the word we are going with for this?
I am a loyal fan of this site, but this has to be the worst post ever. Its an obvious photoshop sicne the bottom of the case isnt even in the reflection. And like they said above, I'm sure apple wouldnt go to some small italian company to make a case for it (if this company even exists, i've never heard of it).
Please be more decisive with your apple rumor posts and dont just post anything under the sun.
The name Macbook Air should be a hint from the beginning.

That's ridiculous! Come on, I could draw that in Illustrator too if I had 2 minutes to spare (what I don't, as i'm busy working on world domination).

This page doesn't look like most of the other pages on the website, and like TUCHEL says, its just a few colored rectangles. Its a shoddy mockup. If Apple gave them specs, wouldn't they put a little more effort into making it look good?
They just want you to join their mailing list.
