Extreme Tank Wheelchair Gets Upgraded: Rascal Owners...Be Very Afraid
Posted by Sean Fallon at 9:00 AM on January 11, 2008
The second generation of the Tank Chair is even bigger and badder than the original, with a 24v, 2hp, 127rpm variable speed motor powered by four Optima Deep Cycle batteries. It also has a 22:1 gear ratio and it can handle a 10% incline with no problems.
The upgrade even includes a full-sized and generously cushioned chair for optimum comfort on those bumpy off road excursions or for those times when you are forced to mow down some dude on a Rascal monster truck style. Pricing and release date information have not been made available. [Tank Chair via RegHardware via Crave]

Now the older ladies can run over almost everybody at Walmart during a sale. (and I'm sure they'd probably really do it)

@Senninha - If you look at where the batteries and motor are stored, the center of gravity may not be quite so high after all.

The treads are way too wide to make it onto a short bus.

Seriously, how much does the chair weigh? That thing must be hefty.

@senninha13: Umm... I think you're missing the point about the center of gravity vs. incline thing.
I think 10 degrees is probably the safest incline this really heavy chair can get up to without catapulting poor Steven Hawking out onto the road when it rights itself.

10 degrees? that's pretty weak... the ground clearance is quite poor to be having that high of a center of gravity.

Not as fun as the dune buggy wheelchair.
That tank wheelchair is not fast enough to be fun.

Depending on which Optima Yellow Tops they use, they could weigh from 26 to 58 lbs EACH. *4 = a lot of weight pretty low to the ground. Once you add the motor, treads, etc., I doubt you could tip one of these over very easily.

I'm in a wheelchair and people have a habit of getting their feet under my wheels. This would fix that problem. The cat better watch out too.
