Belkin TuneBase and TuneCast More Formally Announced
Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:01 PM on January 7, 2008
The product: The Belkin TuneBase FM and TuneCast Auto (the Tunebase with car charger) are Belkin's newest FM transmitters to send music from your iPhone and iPod through your radio.
The catch: While these new models are really just updates to what Belkin's been offering for years, there aren't really any catches since if you don't like the sound of FM, they offer a line out that can be used for a direct stereo connection.
Belkin claims "a majority of MP3 owners listen to MP3s in their car," so we guess these Belkin devices still have relevance in the market, which is sort of amazing considering how long ago Belkin started making FM iPod accessories.
The TuneBase FM will run you about $US100 when it's available this April, while the TuneCast Auto is surprisingly less expensive at only $US80 this February.

Wait a tick... I own the new TuneBase FM as shown in this picture. Have for about a month now. Why a release date of April then? Also, it shows an iPhone in here, but in the link on here, the text reads, "Compatible with pretty much every Apple player except for the iPhone". I'm confused. I hope to buy an iPhone once the 2G rolls around, but I'd like to know if it'll work as shown in the picture here, or not?

I own this too! Best FM Transmitter ive ever used. Quality is almost par with having a line-out except for the background noise (Not that noticable).
the "Pro" modes Beats the crap out of any other transmitters out there. Cool thing is, if you have an iphone or itouch, you can just swivel the whole thing 90* while plugged in to watch videos... in your car...
iphone/touch + this = best head unit ever...

Shenanigans! $100?! Get the Belkin TuneFlex for $25 and it works right now without the wait!
Been using TuneFlex with my iPhone for 3 months now. Charges and cradles the iPhone. Flawless audio out through the Aux mini out. Videos on the go. Horizontal... vertical... always in reach.
Sounds crisp and clean through your car stereo. Google Maps on the soon-to-be-released iPhone 1.1.3 firmware will provide psuedo-GPS like navigation as (or hacked iPhone users like myself can already do this with Navizon!)
It's like a touchscreen head unit for a music/video/GPS/SMS/Internet device. Screw those little tiny OLED screens that cost $$$$. I have an iPhone that kicks all their asses!
Best part: if your phone rings, the music turns down automatically so you know and can answer. I just wish the phone call would go through car speakers too (it doesn't)!
Only Bad thing: you must click 'NO' on a simple dialog message after you first plug in your iPhone: "This acessory was not designed... blah blah...".
