The Apple Store Australia has dropped their iPod Touch prices, albeit not by a whole lot. The 8GB model is now $399 (down from $419) and the 16GB is $499 (down from $549). Still hefty, no?
What a kick in the nuts for those that already own one. Not only does it cost $US20 to upgrade to the current software set… they are now selling the retail version for $20 cheaper and include the software for free.
Just posting a follow-up: After having some time to cool down somewhat, I realised they could just be selling the remaining iPods in stock that don’t have the new software at the reduced price – if you look on the feature list for the touch in the Aus Apple Store, it doesn’t include the new apps like the equivalent US page does.
jono: the site clearly shows the apps under the description… so no, its the new firmware on this ipods.hense why it has a “already got a touch and want the software upgrade?” button

Wow. On top of the $20 I’m now supposed to pay in order to get the new applications on my Touch bought in December.
You’re fantastic, Apple.

Great job Apple, you’re clearly setting the standard in how to treat your early adopters and existing customers.
Scum.

Dav[e]tech: Just to clarify: Looking at this page: http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebObjects/australiastore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=7B723640&node=home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch
While the new apps are highlighted under the “Now there’s even more to touch” heading, they are not listed in the feature list for each model.
If you look at the equivalent US page: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=7B723640&node=home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch
The new apps are listed in the feature list for each model.
It is still confusing though – even in the Aus store, the image to the right has the new icons.
