MacBook Air Review

The MacBook Air is driving me insane. I want it like no other hardware. It’s thin, yeah, ok, we know this. And many power users have been bitching for more: 3G, bigger storage, more USB ports, and an internal drive. If you feel that way, this computer isn’t for you. I’ll go ahead and call it the most simple, focused, and beautiful laptop ever. And the MacBook Air’s shortcomings matter no more than the discomfort that fashionistas endure while wearing high heels, or car fanatics do when they have to fill up their tanks twice a week in their 5MPG sports cars. It just doesn’t matter to those who are smitten. For the rest of you, here are the facts.

Flying Stick Camera: Rub It Between Your Palms

Photographers interested in taking endless shots of themselves with their arms outstretched will surely love this flying stick camera concept from designer Tsunho Wang. Just “rub the stick” between your palms and use the built up energy to send the camera whizzing into the air. Once airborne, the camera will automatically take a series of photographs at set intervals. No specs were mentioned regarding the stick cam, but seeing as how it is a concept that won’t see the light of day, it probably doesn’t matter all that much. [Yanko Design]

Bazooka Camo ATV Speakers For Hunters: Because Deer Love Loud Country Music

These 6.5″ Bazooka “Outdoor Tubbie” speakers are hilarious on numerous levels. First off, they are designed for hunters—which is why they are camouflaged. The idea is to hook them to your ATV roll bar, which I can only presume is useful for those interested in hunting wild game while blaring music. Uh, I don’t know much about hunting, but I do know that thundering out of the brush, guns a’ blazin’ with duelling banjos blaring from your ATV is unlikely to result in a successful kill. However, if you are interested in picking them up, you can do so starting this March for US$449.95. [Product Page via AudioJunkies]

Motorola Bluetooth roundup

Gizmodo AU

Sure, they may be suffering at a little bit of a loss financially, but Motorola’s latest Bluetooth lineup is pretty cool. For Bluetooth, I mean. They’ve got an entire range of Bluetooth earpieces available (pics and info after the jump), plus their S9 stereo Bluetooth and iPod adapter bundle.

How Camera Lenses Are Made: In Honour of PMA 2008

This video has made the rounds before, but given that it is PMA season, we figured you might want to take a look at this video illustrating how camera lenses are made. There aren’t any sex scenes (thank God) or explosions, but it is definitely cool and educational. Two words that are not normally used in the same sentence. [YouTube]

Samsung’s i8 8.1-megapixel Point and Shoot Looks Slim, Rounded

It’s not as techno-focused (read: male) as their NV-Series, but the i8 point-and-shoot seems like smooth number that fits nicely into your pocket. Available in pink and blue and white, it’s got a 8.1-megapixel sensor, 2.7-inch LCD, 195MB internal memory, SD card, facial recognition, 3x optical zoom and anti-shake. We just really like how it looks. [Shiny Shiny via Crunchgear]

Apple Lets You Keep iTunes Video Rentals Longer Than 24 Hours, No Hacks Required

Okay, so we tried basically every way we could think of to warp, twist and otherwise hack the laws of iTunes rentals time and space in order to give you guys more than 24 hours to finish a flick. Turns out, no black magic is needed. Apple knows an exact, single day just isn’t enough (Hollywood’s a bitch), and they’ve actually built in an extension—at least on an iPod nano.

MacBook Air Tear Down: Sexy On the Inside Too

newVideoPlayer("macbookteardown.flv", 475, 286,"");As soon as we got our MacBook Air, we couldn’t help but want to tear it down to its innards. We wanted to see what made up this beautiful machine, so we grabbed our #00 phillips screwdriver and had at it. Want to know what we found? The sexiest and simplest notebook has the sexiest and simplest construction (you’ll be surprised at how easy the battery comes out). Not only was this thin thing amazingly easy to dissemble, it was even gorgeous on the inside. Here are the details and, more importantly, pictures.

Rock Band Standalone Instruments Get Ship Dates, Price

The days of only being able to buy Rock Band instruments in a gigantic pack are about to come to an end as the creators just announced dates and pricing on their instruments. The drums will be US$79 on February 12 and the guitar will be US$59 on April 1. The PlayStation 3 version of the guitar will work on both PS3 and PS2, and will also get the US$59 price tag. There’s no announcement for the USB microphone, however, but you can rig up your own mic by using a standard USB mic or just the Xbox Live headset and a controller. AU: Man, I’d just love it if we had a release date in Australia… Of course, I’m sure our good friends at Kotaku AU will update us when that happens.
