Samsung i80, i100 and S1060 Digital Cameras

11:36PM Jesus Diaz | Samsung will release three new compact digital cameras this autumn: the Samsung i80, i100 and S1060. The first comes with an all aluminum case with clean retro 70s, almost Bondesque looks, 8.1 megapixel sensor, 3x digital zoom, 3-inch LCD and integrated MP3 player. The i100 pushes the sensor to 10.2 and adds Dual Image Stabilisation system and, for some reason, travel information from 30 countries, all while keeping a similar retro look. [Samsung] More »

P-Per Cellphone Concept is too Perfect to be True

11:25PM Haroon Malik | Those fellows at the Chocolate Design Agency have come up with another smashing concept. This time they have gone to work on creating the best phone, ever. The design is modelled around the same E-Paper Slap Bracelet we saw earlier, but this time the e-paper system—four layers of sustainable material, and an Organic Radical battery—is put to use in the P-Per mobile phone concept, which shows a transparent display for camera mode and a browser that spans the entire surface of the display. Checkout the video after the jump to see what all the fuss is about. More »

High School Student Builds 100% Wooden Bike

9:24PM Gizmodo US Edition | 16 year-old Marco Facciola built this completely wooden bike for a school project, managing to avoid using any metal at all. Yes, this wooden wheeled wonder even has a chain and gearing made of wood, held together with wooden joints and glue. The detail in the free-wheeling ratchet and spacers between the chain links, pinned with tiny dowels, is amazing. Marco had to complete this as a non-academic project for his International Baccalaureate, and inspiration came from his grandfather, forced to make wooden wheels for his bike during the war due to rubber shortages. Bring the Sweet Stench of Death to Your Desk With More Gothic Peripherals

8:41PM Gizmodo US Edition | This week’s bad-taste webcam has been joined by more goth gear—this time a keyboard, mouse and mouse mat combo. Using the same recipe (take a perfectly ordinary set of computer stuff, liberally sprinkle with skulls, bones, rocks, random greenery and snakes) this time Evergreen has upped the gravestone action. Definitely one for peripherals-of-darkness fans, and any of you whose vehicle has the sticker: “If The Hearse Is Rockin’, Don’t Come Knockin’” displayed on its rear end. [Akihabaranews] More »

Sony Reduces Blu-ray Lasers’ Size and Cost

8:38PM Haroon Malik | With Blu-ray destroying the competition, the availability of cheaper units is going to be a big part in the future success of the format. That is why Sony’s recent success in shrinking the basic Blu-ray reader/writer module is a turn for the better. The new modules will pave the way for thinner drive bays and cheaper players. More »

Noise-Cancelling Earphones Rock Impractical Battery Pack

8:28PM Addy Dugdale | Audio Technica’s noise-cancelling earphones strike me as somewhat impractical, despite the fact that the sticky-in units have a few things going for them. Find out what, plus another pic, below. More »

Car On A Stick Is Urban Transport Concept by Day, Street Light by Night

8:10PM Addy Dugdale | Ross Lovegrove’s Car on a Stick concept takes multi-tasking to extremes. The latest idea from the former Apple and Sony designer, who has quite a penchant for solar-powered thingies is a solar-powered transport pod that can carry up to four people, plus shopping bags, that can be stored in an ingenious fashion. Samsung G600 Coming to Australia

4:37PM Nick Broughall | After months of being told “probably not” from Samsung, they announced last night that they’ll be releasing the G600 5 megapixel cameraphone in Australia in March. It will be available through Optus stores “on an affordable plan”. I’ll be getting my hands on one in a couple of weeks – you guys will be the first to know what I think. More »

BeoLiving: How You’d Live If You Were Rich

1:49PM Nick Broughall | There’s nothing subtle about Bang and Olufsen. They go out of their way to grab your attention, sometimes by outlandish or inspired design, other times by a price tag that would make James Packer whistle. So it’s no surprise that their recently renovated flagship store on Oxford Street in Paddington is the same. From the speakers outside playing the latest music to passersby to the bright red wall which catches the light reflecting off cars headlights and therefore people’s attention, everything is meant to stand out, loud and proud. Like Beckham. Or a Big Brother Housemate. Inside, there’s all the latest B&O products, from their new entry model LCD TVs (for a paltry $4K) to their incredible new Serenata phone, which looks and feels like sex in circuitry form. But the main attraction in the store is what Bang and Olufsen calls “BeoLiving”.

A Chair That Walks For You: Supreme Laziness Doesn’t Come Cheap

12:48PM Sean Fallon | Chairs that can walk are nothing new, but this is the first version that I have seen that you can actually buy. The mechanics in this eight-legged chair are sophisticated enough to move a “passenger” around the room, but there is no information available about how one would actually steer this thing, how fast it can walk and how much weight it can lift. These are things I would like to know before I drop 15,000 Euros, (or $25,000) on a chair with no cushion. [Product Page via Gizmowatch via Slashgear] More »
