Creatures-of-the-Night Nooka Watches Have Camouflage, May Not Disappear on Your Wrist
11:38PM Gizmodo US Edition | Latest in the lineup of unusual Nooka watches from designer Mark Waldman comes Creatures-of-the-Night, in camouflage patterns that make reading the time off the Zen-H style face even more befuddling. The watch was originally only going to come in boring old urban gray. But Mark couldn’t contain himself, and also went for jungle green and an insanely multicoloured version that would probably only be camouflaged on Saturn. Mineral crystal glass, stainless steel back, PU wristband and brain-twisting LCD display for around $300, available this month. [NookaStyle] More »

ARTA Super GT 300 Speed Racer Is Worthy of Racing the Batmobile
11:32PM Gizmodo US Edition | Oh boy oh boy oh boy, here’s the vrooomtabolous and akiratastic ARTA Super GT 300, the nemesis of Mach 5, our favourite car this side of the Batmobile. In fact, if the Joker liked race cars instead of trucks and school buses, I’m sure he’ll grab this one and beat the crap out of Mr. Pointy Ears. All that red and shapes remind me of Kaneda’s bike: More »

iTouchless Auto-Flusher Gives You the Posh Toilet You Always Wanted
11:00PM Gizmodo US Edition | Somehow slipping under our toilet-obsessed butts at CES, the iTouchless Auto-Flusher saves you the effort of pressing down on that flush handle once you’ve gone. Using IR to sense you, it does make using the toilet a little more hygienic and its 4 “C” batteries will last for 23,000 flushes, which seems incredibly reasonable (3 years of use, apparently). Buy it for $US199.95, install it in your toilet cistern and you could impress your visitors with that “Oooh… it’s just like a 5-star hotel!” feeling. Thankfully a manual override is available. Gorenje Kitchen Is Perfect Match for iPhone Iron Chefs
9:22PM Gizmodo US Edition | This Gorenje kitchen by French designer Ora-Ïto is one of the five best domestic appliances in the 2008 Wallpaper Design awards. We absolutely dig it, not because it looks like the iPhone of kitchens, but because of its clean black glass and brushed aluminium surfaces combined with the last cookery tech. As Wallpaper puts it: “High technology and simple functionality, what the designer dubs simplexity.” OK, so it’s because of the iPhone looks. [Gorenje via Wallpaper] More »

Blood-Pen Brings New Terror to the Phrase “Write This Out 1000 Times”
9:09PM Gizmodo US Edition | In an age of e-books and e-paper, it’s nice to find someone going back to flesh-and-blood traditions. Like Bob Partington, who has designed a beautiful fountain pen with a Buffy-ish twist: it uses a syringe full of your latest victim’s blood for ink. Seeing it in action goes from “eeek” to “I think I’m going to faint”: More »

F-15 Eagle Literally Breaking Apart
8:30PM Gizmodo US Edition | As part of the ongoing investigation on the accident that has nearly one third of the US F-15 Eagle fleet grounded, Boeing Phantom Works has released this simulation reconstructing the “structural failure of a US Air National Guard F-15C, caused by fatigue cracking of a forward fuselage longeron, slowed down to one-fifth the actual speed of the event!” In other words: “ZOMG! The cockpit broke apart!” Fortunately, the pilot survived the extremely violent accident, which is amazing although not as incredible as the Israeli pilot who managed to land his Eagle after a crash ripped off an entire wing: More »

Swarovski-Studded Toaster Just Makes Bread Brown, Not Glittery
8:29PM Gizmodo US Edition | Latest in the line of humble gadgets to get the shiny Swarovski treatment is this toaster: a limited-edition Russell Hobbs number, with over 200 of those tiny crystals decorating its skin. While it won’t do anything clever like turbo-toast your morning snack, or burn a message into it, if you like gazing at a little bit of luxury as you huddle over your breakfast coffee then this is your $US300 baby. Apart from all the glitter, this is just a normal 18″ wide single-slot toaster in glass and stainless steel with variable browning, a crumb tray, extra-lift handle and so on. But it is a limited edition: only 500 available. [Neiman Marcus via Momist] More »

A1 Racer Beats Boeing 777 In Runway Showdown
4:08PM Gizmodo US Edition | A Boeing 777 jet and an A1 Grand Prix racer clashed at the Auckland International Airport in New Zealand to see which was the faster machine. The Boeing got a headstart down the runway for the first race, and defeated the A1 handily. When the starting points were equal, however, the A1 emerged as the victor, reaching a top speed of 285 km/h (versus 270 km/h for the Boeing). And is it just me, or does watching this news piece give you a strange urge to watch Flight of the Conchords? [TV New Zealand via Jalopnik] More »

Rough Nano-Wires Hold the Secret to Efficient Heat to Electricity Conversion
11:25AM Gizmodo US Edition | The latest edition of Nature magazine details a new method scientists have derived for converting heat energy into electricity, using silicon to instigate the conversion. Researchers have more investigations to carry out, but if preliminary findings are indicative of what is to come, appliances that charge using your own body heat may be on the horizon. More »
