USB Dog Tags Shipping Now, Still Overpriced
Posted by Jason Chen at 10:00 AM on December 28, 2007
Remember those Olinari Silver USB Dog Tags we showed you back in August? The ones that looked extremely nice but costed about $200 too much? They're shipping now for the price of $US349 (with 2GB USB) and $US319 without. We really want one of these, but for $US349 we'll stick with going bare chested. [Olinari]

Besides, dogtags have the characteristic of being absolutely flat, this, while not ugly, looks like a mini flask.

They're sterling silver. That explains the price, though I can't say it makes them any more appealing to me.

Ouch. I could see if that was platinum or something. But it looks like pewter.

Are these geared toward militant Quebecois hackers?

I don't get it… Its like the usb thing was a total after thought. Someone made an ugly necklace and said, "let me see, how the hell can I sell this dam thing?... wait!…I know!…"

Definitely not worth it. Would be nice if it was super thin and such. I wouldn't want to have a Zippo around my neck.

@OtterKing: That's why I always keep my valuable data on my laptop instead. Oh, wait....

If these were under $100, I'd buy two (one for a fluer-de-lis obsessed friend). We're both writers, and we're both a little apprehensive about keeping our works-in-progress on such thief magnets as our MacBooks, so we keep our projects on USB thumbdrives (like many writers, I consider my intellectual property to be worth more than the actual laptop), but I worry about losing the tiny drives (even though I back up all my work when I'm at home, of course). Keeping them around my neck in a way that won't make me look like a total nerd (even if it's a bit too much bling for my taste)? Win!
But for $349? I said I was a *writer.* :-P

They have these at Target for like 30 bucks. Not pretty like these are but hold more and wouldnt make you feel like a tool for spending 200 bucks.
