Sync Your iPhone, iPod Touch Over Wi-Fi
Posted by Jason Chen at 6:00 AM on December 4, 2007
If the Zune can wirelessly sync over your home network, why can't your iPhone? A developer's made an automatic GUI syncing tool that essentially rsync's a folder on your computer to a folder on your iPhone/iTouch. That by itself is pretty lame and quite limited - especially compared with a full sync you get when you dock your iPhone regularly - but future features are coming that will let you sync your iTunes library, your photos and your contacts. Now that's something we want to see. [Google Code via Everything Cafe via Appletell - Thanks Marcus!]

I generally gush quite effortlessly at Apple's every move but this whole wireless sync thing is too sexy, too easy to implement and too "it just works". For Apple *not* to be doing this is a mind boggler.
Bill Buckner, meet Apple.

@Adam Pash, LH Senior Editor: Thanks, Adam, but this is something that should be doable without jailbreaking.

well if you have not notice the iphone and the ipod touch already have Bonjour files installed that will let you sync over WiFi around your house or pretty much anyware in the world back to your PC or mac over the internet. files are there i just don't know why its not working yet, but my guess is that there coming soon

What would be cooler and probably more useful is to be able to do this the other way around. Have an app on the iPhone/iPod Touch which you can use to trigger a wireless sync with your computer.
Pretty much how a network Hotsync on Palm devices work.

I'm so dissapointed with Apple. I can tell you, stuff like wireless sync probably isn't n their agenda. They probably just think of making more money with their second generation of iPhone.
Forget the wireless sync.. where is my multiple delete?? spam filter.. these are such a basic and main feature and functionality but they probably just could care less.

@mullingitover:
If not I can guarantee that he has the dev kit and has REAL 3rd party apps on it.

I'd be happy if they just allowed me to play synced music from my iphone on my work PC like I can with my ipod.

Weak. Apple needs to step it up and develop this functionality like yesterday..
