Student Catches Principal Fighting With Student on Mobile Phone Camera, School Responds By Banning Mobiles
Posted by Jason Chen at 7:32 AM on December 22, 2007
Way to go, Caddo School Board. You've won yourself the Gizmodo luddite of the week award. See, when a student films the principal of your Huntington High School fighting another student, the correct response isn't to ban cellphones, it's to make sure principals don't fight with students. It was only after the student showed the clip to local media that you actually did something about the situation, putting the principal on paid administrative leave. As a side note, we would also have accepted "resigning and putting people not completely retarded onto the school board" as a correct response. I teach and I've fought with kids many times. Nothing serious of course, it's more like wrestling. Or when, you know, they come up from behind you to choke you because they're angry about something, it's just natural to flip them over your body and body slam them to the floor.
I suppose you could always try having them write on the chalkboard...

That's pretty much what you get when you hire a principal named Rey Mysterio.

@EMoShunz: When I get punched in the stomach buy a guy behind me dancing I always smile, but really I'm trying to control the rage within and then counter by smashing his skull.

I think they should reinstate corporal punishment (spanking, whipping, etc) in schools.

THe Principal was ding his job. If a kid is dancing (especially to lousy music) he should be punished in a way where he will n ever do (disobey) the rules again. Its as simple as that.

Schools are getting retards. Dr. Spock was wrong!
lol, Without discipline, there can be no order. Bring back the eraser to the side of the head and the ruler across the knuckles. Maybe a few more students will get motivated enough to even READ a book.

My school had a standing ban on cellphones and pagers because "only drug dealers use them". :)

Seems they should perhaps take some time out from fights to educate the pupils.
At least that's what I say after reading these comments..

@Wwhat:
yes...educate them on what happens when two men care for each other
joke joke!
on the serious note...is that image seriously from the vid? i say they should have yelled at the principal, asked their school district's lawyer if anything looked like any problem could come of it...and providing everything was groovy, ask the principal not to be either grabbing or getting so physically close to his students (people tend to be stupid and will say/think some of the most outrageous and stupidest things you've ever heard based on events that dont even come close to what they are talking about) and then basically shrugging off the whole ordeal.

See, this is funny for me. When I was in High School cell phones, pagers, etc. were already banned.
So what is this student carrying cell phones that you speak of?

I think most of you commenting here are missing the point. The principle was caught fighting a student in school and there was video evidence. The state shouhld have immediately revoked his teaching certificate and charged that principle with assault of a minor. Instead, the school board decided the best course of action was to prevent anyone from being able to provide conclusive evidence against it members and employees. This cements the point that public schools oporate outside of the law, and no parent or student can do anything about it.

Usually when i had student problems (back when i was a principle), I'd let them make the first move. Then I'd pull out my chain gun, saw him in half, then corpse-hump the bastard publicly so the other students don't mess with me. Or just tell them i'll sort out the problem for them, and as they walk away stuff a frag-grenade in their backpack.
P.S., my I.S.S. is more like a classroom death match. First not to die painfully wins a pistol with one shell and some privacy in a locked room. Or more death match. The option is theirs.

@thinkfree: I don't get the impression from your post that you know how the world works. First off, the state won't bring a tort claim against the principal "assault of a minor" as you described it - actually it's battery - that's for the minor's parents or guardians to do. Also, how do you know what criteria the school board has to revoke a license, and who are you to say what that criteria should be? As far as public schools operating outside the law, that's the most absurd thing you've said. PRIVATE schools to some extent operate outside the law, but if you don't think there's a state or federal law dictating every little thing that goes on inside or around the school then you are only kidding yourself.

@bigslide: But they only dictate what they know is going on. If the school tries to cover it up then who will know what they are doing?

@thinkfree: Yeah, the staff at most schools are awful.
I had a computer teacher in 7th grade who knew less about PC's than I did, and I use Macs. Then she got mad at us for knowing how to do things that she didn't. Aren't teachers supposed to be certified?
Then one time I was about 30 seconds late for class, so I got a pass from the office. My teacher got all pissed off and nearly gave me detention anyway. That teacher was an asshole, he never learned my name, kept all his graded tests in a cardboard box that he searched through to give back to people, and constantly gave me other students' tests even from other classes.
And the new principal then yelled at my mom for me switching to homeschooling because they get like $10,000 each year in funding for each student and now I'm not there.

It looks like they were horsing around. Maybe the principal was defending himself. If it really was a fight, it's lucky nobody was shot. As far as cellphones in school, they shouldn't have been there in the first place. School is for learning, not for texting, chatting, and making Youtube videos.

The "schoolboard member" is a real winner. Apparently the students are "texxin" and sending the pictures to "the youtubes".
