Plate Flipper Sends a Message To Cars You Just Passed
Posted by Jason Chen at 6:25 AM on December 4, 2007
If you're the kind of driver that enjoys passing cars and subsequently giving them the bird, this Plate Flipper will save you time and energy by doing your flipping for you. It's essentially a version of the plate-flipping gadget that KITT had on Knight Rider, but instead of flipping open to reveal another plate, it flips open to reveal a "clever" message like "back off," "c-ya," "10 sec car," or "Honda." Classy this is not. [PlateFlipper via Strange New Products]

@nutbastard: More likely you'll cover their windshield in goo then cause them to spin out. Either way, you win.

Hmm, I wonder if the cost will be less than the EZ Pass tolls I will no longer have to pay.

@strider_mt2k: i gave serious consideration to the oil slick and engineering one that can dump enough oil quickly enough. you'd want it pressurized so it all splats out exactly where you want it (middle of blind corner)
then i realized that some high-powered HID lights in the rear window would both blind the persuer and his camera, and be much less suspicious when tooling around (compared to 'whats all this oil leaking out of your bumper, son?' )

What's cool is that while the plate is sideways there is room for oil slick/smoke screen deployment.
You know, until the 18-wheeler comes to pick you up.
Too much Spy Hunter as a kid I guess, sorry.

@Pope John Peeps II:
i've often wondered what kind of reaction something like that would get. if it's anything like what my Bad Cop: No Donut sticker got me, you dont want that kind of attention.
funnier would be one that says "Just kidding, officer" that you could flip to then flip back real quick.

So is this going to replace the dumb ass stickers everyones putting on their cars these days?

better just to flash your blinkers twice and wave... then turn the wave into the finger and open the throttle while laying on one, long honk until they drop back enough that they cant see you.... then pull over, turn off your lights, wait for em to pass you, get behind em again, rinse, repeat.
Note: works best on tourists in the middle of nowhere. at night.

Oh yah. I'm getting one that says "COKE DLR", and I'll flip it every time I pass a cop. I mean, if you're going to get something stupidly illegal, you might as well just go whole hog, right?
(Then I'll mount a shotgun in my homemade truck-turret and blow some pigs away!)

@cayton: If you're the kind of person who thinks it's totally awesome to rub the other driver's face in it when you pass them on the highway (or anywhere, I guess) then I doubt you care about whether it's illegal.

They're very illegal. The website even says that they're strictly for "off the road use only" and "should not be used while driving"

Also, according to Mythbusters, I'm pretty sure this is illegal.

@dambo29: DING DING DING DING!!! We have a winner!!
I have a highway near me that uses cameras in combination with EZPass to pay for tolls - no EZPass, it looks up your plates and fines you. $130 for a license plate that makes this highway toll-free and doubles as an insult to tailgaters is cheap when you factor in the personal joy this may bring me.

I have a feeling that the kind of guys that will buy this are the same guys driving the jacked-up-bass-thumping-overcompensation-mobile riding my butt with his brights in my mirror.
Maybe it will provide some incentive to stop texting will driving, un-pop his collar and GO THE HELL AROUND!

First of all, if you buy this, don't forget to use it. Hell, we've had blinkers in our cars for decades and people don't know how to turn them on yet.
Nothing worse than waiting to turn east at an intersection when the car coming from the west slows down and gently turns south...WITH NO FRCKN BLINKER TURNED ON. Dammit people, use your blinkers...and get off the phone.
