Phantom Lapboard Ships on Phantom Dates
Phantom Entertainment has certainly got the name right; they provide an excellent source of entertainment based on phantom product releases. The most recent of such products is the long-time-coming Phantom Lapboard, which is apparently available for purchase now. The asking price is $US130, and it ships on...wait a minute...when does it ship?
That's right, those comedians are promising a most excellent lapboard, which will allow you on sofa access to your PC, but they aren't giving a shipping date! If you really, really want a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse and a mobile mouse surface that looks good/exists, we say don't wait on this one. Most certainly do not cough up your hard earned cash till the sleighs are packed with the goodies. That penultimate sentence comprises part of Gizmodo's Christmas Advice for Chumps, there's no need to thank us. [Phantom Entertainment - Thanks, Donald. D]

lol@ bubuli's card of choice.
I remember in 2001 when my dad asked if I'd be wanting a PS2 for Christmas...
I told him that we should probably wait... the phantom would play PS2, Gamecube, and XBOX games... I'm glad he didn't take my advice.
Sidenote... I believe that I first heard about the phantom game console in an article featured on the gamesages website, you know, before it got bought by ign... good times.

i pre-ordered one and used my Diner's Club to pay for it.

Microsoft and about a billion other companies. They're all to big though, I like the palmy, one-handedness of this one better.

@MagnoliaBoy: MS has one? where? cuz I would rather have something from a real company

So what, it's a wireless keyboard mouse set with a little lap pad thing. What else does it need to be? It's pretty sexy looking as is, and doesn't really need to DO anything else. $130 isn't bad either (have you seen Microsoft's ). It's just right for my lazy ass to kick back on the recliner and get down on some game-ing.

I just bought a coffee table that eliminated the need for this.
The whole center section levers up and opens to reveal -my notebook!
When open it's right where I'm sitting, and the table's on wheels so it can be positioned further if need be.
When closed it's a coffee table again.
The nice thing is that while devices come and go, this works with nearly anything will hopefully remain!

No wait, it was supposed to play PC games.
I think I'm getting my vaporware consoles mixed up.

DISCOUNTEGGROLL: so I take it this is the new optimus prime for HMPC keyboards.
I don't know.
This keyboard/mouse combo actually exists. I got to play with it at the E3 a few years ago. For me, it was the most interesting (ok, the only interesting) thing about the Phantom.
JRGHOULL: all i remember was this was supposed to have a whole crapload of features
First, it was supposed to "play anything". IE, games from other consoles.
Then, it morphed into a game download service.

@jsmjr816: All they ever tried was to separate stupid investors from their money, and they were rather successful in it.

@Palestina: Which reminds me... That was a such a great name they chose, Duke Nukem FOREVER... from what I can remember the next one still hasn't come out! That game is what, at least 7+ years old now!

OpenDNS blocked it for me under pr0n (I have a filter set up)... is there anything naughty on the site?

Sigh...
I helped work on the design of that thing and I still don't have one. Someday, maybe if I'm lucky. I've even thought about just making my own.

@jrghoull: It isn't anything since it doesn't exist!
Xenocide
It comes bundled with Duke Nukem Forever!

so I take it this is the new optimus prime for HMPC keyboards. $XXXX.xx (for safe reasons, I added an additional X before the period) is stuffed away under my sofa, and will feature OLED among other things and will debut [phantomly of course] in about a year. good to know =/
looks like my kid won't be going to college after all.

@jsmjr816:
Yep, I remember that fondly at least a couple of years back. Some big news about this one that would beat all the current consoles and then nothing ever came of it or heard of it either.

@jsmjr816:
all i remember was this was supposed to have a whole crapload of features...and that it originally sounded somewhat intriguing...then all of its features got dropped and now its....its whatever it is...which isnt very much.

Oh Santa PLEASE!!!!! WANT! WANT!

isnt this the company that tried to make a game console but failed and just went into wireless keyboards/mouses that were used for the game consoles?
