Gotta Digg this One for Kina Grannis
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 2:45 AM on December 25, 2007
We are publishing this story not because Kina Grannis has a wonderful voice. Or because she is good composer. Not even because she is beautiful and sexy and has a choir to match. Heck, we are not even doing it because of the song she has dedicated to Digg users, which is actually a really good one. We are publishing this story because a) we love her attitude, b) we want her to win the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest, c) her smile is an early Xmas present to all of us, dorks of the Intarwebs and d) all of the above. Judge by yourself looking at her Gotta Digg video after the jump:
Go Kina! [Kina Grannis]

Silly people! This girl doesn't need the internet votes to become famous. She's got talent, beauty and a sense of humour. She'll make it no matter what she does.

i wanted to vote for her, but then they wanted me to "log in" for some random site.

@tehmark: Yeah, why should a song ever be made about what millions of people experience and can relate to all over the world. That's just plain stupid, right?
She's a babe.. and she diggs. And sings. And plays the guitar. I'm in love all over again.

that. rocked.
I always thought everyone on digg with me was a bunch a dudes, not an attractive, talented young woman!

Listen vote for her and not one false move because they are terribly generic and play songs they stole from the band's founding member and song writer. what a bunch of a-holes.

HA. An incredibly fun, catchy song, by a cute, playful cast. El_Gordo has it right; it's rare to find someone whose soul comes through her smile. Outstanding.

The song is good.
The performance is good.
And I love the back-up singers' choreography... [Slashdot?]

Nice song that n3rdz like me can appreciate, even though I'm not very big on digg. She can sing right into me heart. :)
@lordofthetoast: Tell me about it, Robot Santa ran me off the road last year, and insurance company doesn't cover damages caused by him! :(

She's definitely got something. Great smile. She's not too serious about herself.
She should do well.

@king_of_fools: It's an unknown artist who is using the Web to try to make it to the top in "Real Life". Dude, it doesn't get more technological than that.

@Pixelologist:
Well I just think it's kind of a cop out to say she's featured on giz for being "technological" because she's published music on the internet, about the internet.
Wheres the story on MC Hawking? he's been doing this schtick for years.
I don't think that it was a mistake to put her up here - i'm not a nazi about giz content being relavent, only entertaining. My problem is the weak cop-out that this IS technology related. It really isn't any more technologically oriented than anyone else who uses a computer to, you know, do stuff. She's here because she's cute and the song is catchy, or something.

@nutbastard: So what's your point? \:-D
Sure, the song's not THAT good and should've been a chorus shorter but it was put across well. And she's an Apple fangirl. There's just nothing here not to like. (*ducks*)

@jesusdiaz:
Well... you have to consider that there's about a gajillion people "using the web to try and make it to the top in real life", so it's not as if her situation is particuarly unique. you just like her cuz she's cute.

I may be alone on this, but I found the song pretty trite and kitschy. It's too bad some of her favorite artists don't influence her more.
I can also guarantee if she wasn't cute, this post from Giz wouldn't even be here.

The songs composition had a really good flow. I Digged that more than anything else. If it had went over the 3 minute barrier I wouldn't have complained. Compared to most of the intarweb crapstatic songs over 2 minutes that should never have been made, she did a damn good job of making it contest winner worthy and good to say the least. The backup was a nice touch too. It was cute I say, cute! Good luck on winning along with those baby-steps to stardom!

on a nerd, over analysis mode sort of level... anyone catch that reverb in there? curious just how she did post production (assuming she recorded video and audio at same time) or if the video was lip synced (can't see the geetar). I never really mess with video stuff, but I did a few years back and I had a hell of a time trying to just modify equalizer settings on the software I was using, which wasn't free (school paid for it though). Wondering what software shes using or if she had a bunch of workarounds. I can think of a couple ways to do it cheap, but such a pain in the ass.
anyway audio on the video was pretty good. and performers had pretty good talent. i give it a 7/10
