Amtek iTablet T221 UMPC is No Fatty
Posted by Haroon Malik at 5:30 AM on December 30, 2007

When Amtek are not taking the piss out of Gizmodo writers, they are usually busy cranking out tempting UMPCs. Their latest effort, the iTablet T221, packs in some great features, including a 12.1-inch LCD touchscreen (1024 x 768), Intel Core Duo (1.2Ghz), GMA 950 graphic chipset, 60GB HDD, 2GB RAM and supports 802.11a/b/g wireless networks.
The UMPC will run Windows Vista, but there is no pricing or shipping information at present. Naturally, we would be excited, but our morbid obesity is so severe, we can no longer sense our emotions. Yeah Amtek, we know we are fat, but even we have feelings, you know. We'll go drown our sorrows in a high sugar content soda. [Aving via Mobilewhack]

That's pretty well packed with the goods. That's likely why it's 12.1". Any smaller of a screen and they'd have to pack those components somewhere else. Next challenge, get get it that thin, that well stocked, on something with a sub 8 or 9 inch screen. I won't even mention the probable short battery life. Those dualies gotta slurp the juice.

Anybody know _which_ touchscreen tech they've used? That could make a difference of close to $1000 in the price....

Oh yeah, and I did see the earlier article about someone adding a touchscreen overlay to an existing Eee PC, but that's not exactly what I'm looking for.
For now I'm busy trying to get a budget Wacom Intuos to build my own tablet with an unused laptop I have collecting dust.

I'm waiting for ASUS to make an Eee-T(ablet) PC (pronounced E.T. PC, don't sue me Mr. Spielberg!).
Seriously, if they added a decent (read: Wacom) touchscreen to the Eee PC I'd be all over it. Small, lightweight, inexpensive. Great replacement for my paper notebook.
Heck, I'd like to see it in "Slate" mode (without the keyboard). Thinner form-factor, slightly less weight, less moving parts to break. Convertible tablets just seem clunky to me, anyway.

@LittleJon: Easy, if it is a half inch thin, smaller than a standard paper notebook.
I want this thing but I'm sure it has the same price as dell's shiny ass tablet.

How can it be a UMPC with a 12.1-inch screen?

@ElementalDragon:
Because the AVING report called it an 'iTablet' or because this was supposed to be a mac product? I doubt the latter with such port arrangement that appears to regard function before form.
